6'3" and runs a 4.49 at 15? That is impressive.

Is that hand-timed?

Always have to take that with a grain of salt.

Well, can't that be said about almost every 40 time for any high schooler? All you can do is compare the times that are available.

He doesn't appear to run the 100m in track, but that's a damn fine 110m hurdle time, which is laser timed. Also the school record for Cedar Grove.

ETA: For reference, the fastest time by a sophomore in the country in the past year was 14.64 (-.5).

Half decent article exploring why hurdlers make good football players: LINK /

Hopefully he will bring his fellow GA monster receivers along with him

It's not impossible that Sheffield could go somewhere else, but it would certainly be a surprise if he didn't join his cousin (RL) as a Dawg. Blaylock would be the one I'm less sure of. Seems to be a fair amount of interest, but pulling all 3 of those in the same class would be insane.

It can definitely apply for any high schooler. I was really just saying that we don't know he has sub 4.5 speed if it was hand-timed.

When's the last time there was a top player coming out of St. Simons let alone a top 10 guy?

May as well fire up a '19 thread. Kids are coming in hot and I don't see it stopping.

Now to just get some '18s...think the seal will be broken by our ol' pal Zamir

We have more 2019 commits than 2018, so it's off to a fast start

I haven't paid that much attention the last few months.

Is Zamir still in play, or do we think Clemson takes him?

yes and we have received like 9 of the last 11 CBs for him. I think he was planning to announce in June. Not sure if that has been pushed back or not.

Still plans on committing on his mother or grandmother's (can't remember which one) birthday in June. Have to believe that someone else will pop before then.

Beamer has us in the top group for the #3 overall player, who is a current Penn St commit. He really loved his trip to UGA. Said he'll be coming out with a top 5 soon.

Given his hurdle times, a 4.49-4.55 is probably pretty accurate... it's not a direct corollary, but have spent a *lot* of time analyzing recruits who are both football players and track athletes (due to the RMD on the Tiger Rant recruiting board) and his hurdle times are in line with someone with very good if not "elite" (sub 4.4) 40 times. Better still, athletes who excel at the hurdle events are often better at football than those who simply excel at the 40 (straight line singular focus vs coordinated efforts and timing required in conjunction with speed for the hurdles).

Either way, it won't matter for long, as either this summer or next, he'll have likely several laser timed 40 runs during the camp circuit events.

This is as much if not more due to Webb and Swift, but Beamer definitely helping to make sure that the experience lives up to they hype. They're trying to pull him hard.

Never thought I would ever see a 5* come out of GISA.

He'll get faster too which is awesome. I've got some time off today so I'll try and start the 19 thread while watching the Ball game.

Exactly. That's why I referenced the fastest sophomore 110m hurdle time in the country at just a couple of tenths faster... Would anticipate improvement in those times over the next two years. Likely a 4.45 guy at the very least by the time all is said and done

Either way, AJ Green "only" managed a 4.48 at the NFL combine after 3 years at UGA (albeit running at 211 as well) - so I don't get too enamored with gaudy 40 times...
