Honestly, Weitzel could be the top choice for McGarity since McGarity knows him from his days in Gainesville, and he is an assistant, so he wouldnt cost as much. Add in the fact that he played at Georgia, and the boosters would be in favor.

Knowing our luck, he'd be an awful head coach.

I admittedly don't follow college baseball regularly, but I don't understand how UGA could be consistently bad at it.

Well, I think they were counting on Perno turning into a Mike Martin or Augie Garrido (or, by UGA standards, Bauerle or Manny Diaz) and being at UGA into his old age, likely expanding on his huge success in the 2000s en route to a national title or two. And then Chance Veazey and Jonathan Taylor happened and Perno just lost the will to coach and recruit leading to his downfall. All of a sudden, McGarity had to actually make a hire for a Big 3 sport that wasn't being spoon fed to him by boosters, all the while the SEC was seeing the likes of Vandy and USCe rise up to the top alongside traditional powers like LSU and MSU and Florida. And, to be fair, Stricklin was a good hire on paper: just took lowly Kent St to the CWS and had previously coached and recruited at Tech. But it has been a disaster from the get go with no clear signs of improvement and now we have an AD unwilling to fix it or boosters simply unwilling to give a shite

Dawgs almost came back in the continuation of game 1, score 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th and had the winning run at the plate in will Campbell but hit into a double play to end the game, 8-7

Havent really noticed until now, but holy hell, our guys have some awful hitting stances/swings. These kids are wrapping the bats around their heads, and having a hard time getting their bats through the zone.

Schunk is really bad. Huge wrap when he loads, and then he has a high leg kick. There is way too much going on in that swing to be successful unless you are Vlad Guerrero or Gary Sheffield.

Noticed the stance today as well. Heard morale was pretty low too

Xavier takes the lead in the 6th

But Keegan McGovern takes one to the top of the scoreboard! 2 run homer and that's a way to end a slump!
5-4 Dawgs in the 6th

Schunk and mcGovern get on in the 8th

Logan with a sac bunt up the 3rd base line, fielder's choice is thrown to get the force at 3rd but throw goes into right field and Schunk scores!

7-6 Dawgs with runners on 2nd and 3rd and nobody out

Dawgs blow it wide open in the 8th, 5 run inning thanks to wild pitches galore and some nice hitting by Curry to keep things rolling.

11-6 in the 9th as we try to close out the win

Good thing we split with a 6-7 Big East team that lost a series to charlotte, and split with Troy.

We are now 3-3 in our 11 game stretch of the year thats supposedly easy.

I seriously have never heard a former or current player of his say anything good about him, and nobody ever defends him when somebody says they talked to somebody close to the team who said they hated him. I've been saying for nearly 3 years how much his players dislike him, and nobody ever really comes to his defense.

Rider is 3-5 headed into our series with them this weekend. They were swept by Charlotte to open the year.

If we don't get a sweep here, there is no hope

Not sweeping a small school from New Jersey would be a fireable offense imo.

I fricking give up. Seriously, Rider would get beat in a series by some Ga high school teams.

quote:

As a team, Rider is hitting .211/ .283/.278. They've collected 9 extra base hits in 8 games, struck out 50 times, drawn 20 walks, and hit into 5 double plays. They've scored 23 runs on the year.
This is the team our Friday night starter couldn't record an out against.
