And what do good defenses do? I feel something special happening in Athens.

"***Things are going to get very interesting in the DL class at UGA in the 16 group. I am hearing that UGA wants to take 4 in this class. Today UGA offered Tyler Clark from Americus and he is a kid that I love. I think he is mid four star type prospect. Julian Rochester, Michail Carter, Antwuan Jackson, and Clark were all hanging around today. I was told by one source that the 4 prospects made the comment “we might as well come together today and take all four spots.” Georgia had a unreal class at DL, but they need more in this class no question about it. No doubt UGA leads for Clark right now I am hearing.

***Spoke with Elijah Holyfield and some people close to this. Georgia is recruiting him, but right now I don’t see him in Athens. Watch Auburn and Michigan in this. How hard is UGA recruiting him? I am not sure to be honest at this point. You always have to make difficult decisions, I say that a lot in fact.

***It is very clear that Rob Sale has turned the full court press on EJ Price and so has others. IMO, he is at the top of the board as uncommitted OT’s for UGA. Georgia is really trying to get a foot in the door at Archer with their talented 2016 class and 2017 class. Price is a true left tackle prospect to me. He is still raw some, but being in the Archer weightroom is going to help him big time over the next year.

***CB is another spot that UGA could go heavy in-state for in this class. Chad Clay, Tyrique McGhee, Baylen Buchanan, Nigel Warrior, Mecole Hardman (If wants to play DB) and Dylan Singleton are all big time targets of UGA staff I am told. That is a strong in-state group.

***Georgia offered Jordan Smith tonight and I am told that he measured in at 6-foot-6, 220 pounds after playing a season of basketball. He has a lot of upside and I think he could be the long OLB UGA is looking for in each class. They already have Chauncey Manac. Explosive raw kid that will hit your butt, just needs to gain weight.

***Aaron Dowdell measured in at 6-foot-3.5, 296 pounds. Really has changed his body since coming to Creekside."

"Mecole Hardman blew up last spring after a dominating performance at Atlanta MVP Camp. In fact it was new UGA RB Coach Thomas Brown that offered Hardman on the way home from that camp last year for Wisconsin.

Now with double digit offers, Hardman is a household now and was in Athens on Saturday for a junior day.

In recent interviews the 5-foot-11,170 pound athlete has listed Tennessee as his leader. Now there is another team in the top with the Vols.

"Georgia and Tennessee are tied and Auburn is up there"

When asked how the trip on Saturday went, Hardman replied "Great!'

When asked what was the best part of the trip, Hardman said "talking with all the coaches."

According to Hardman, UGA is recruiting him to play either side of the ball, he can choose."

3* CB from Peach Co. Not a bad pickup. This class is going to be pretty choosy, so he must have something to his game that Pruitt likes if he is allowed to commit this early

Georgia has been recruiting him for awhile. Offered over the summer. Probably safe to say they don't agree with his ranking

This. Dominick Sanders comes to mind. The recruiting rankings don't mean jack shite to coaches. Mark Richt doesn't care what Kipp Adams sees when he watches tape. He cares what Mark Richt sees when he watches tape.

Think about Juwuan Briscoe. Dude had two powers (UGA, Ohio State, you could even throw Clemson in there) going balls to wall to sign him all the way until NSD. Both those programs were from outside his region and have very good local recruiting bases from which to find fillers at the end, but instead used a ton of time and resources recruiting a kid from Maryland.

Three star

Eye test and visibility has a lot to do with ranking. Hard to be seen or thought about as a kid from Maryland or New Mexico unless you look like Clowney or Nkemdiche.

I still think rankings matter, they just aren't an automatic qualifier. When you look at how many of the 5 stars get drafted compared to 4 and 3 stars, they definitely matter. That being said, the rankings can't always determine the drive of the player or even the game awareness process when often times camps are what put certain kids over the top in the rankings.

I think rankings re for fans. Period. Any coaching staff worth their salt shouldn't have to look at rankings and give the slightest of shits. I think it just so happens that rankings happen to see a lot of the same things that coaches see, but they're also prone to miss a lot.
