Yes and no. It hampers them, yes, but not necessarily because the degree is deemed "easy." Rather, the "easy" path typically shuts them off from important networking opportunities with other students, alumni, and faculty that could act as key contacts upon beginning their career after sports. So while people may scoff at Sociology or Housing as "worthless" degrees to athletes, it's not because the classes aren't meaningful. Those degrees exist because there is interest from the general population that they be offered. Instead, the issue is that non-athletes have the time to attend optional networking functions or opportunities outside of those programs that athletes just don't have the hours in the day to participate in. If it's not what you know, it's who you know, athletes tend to not know anyone.

When I got my graduate degree it was with the intent that it would offer me some more latitude in terms of career options, additional resume experience, and a whole host of new networking opportunities. Students that go into grad programs thinking they're buying a two-to-four year ticket to a nice job shouldn't be going to grad school. It doesn't buy you a winning hand; it just reshuffles the deck.

One could argue that this is also the benefit of attending a Notre Dame vs. UGA. Notre Dame gives you limited benefits if you know you want to live in Atlanta and what career you prefer. Most high academic kids aren't that way though, so paying for options makes sense.
There's a lot to be said for the national networking opportunities of a ND, Ivies, Stanford, etc. as well as the smaller, but generally more loyal, regional networks of the elite liberal arts schools.

A UGA education especially if you're a football player opens up so many doors & opportunities in the state. If you'r smart & dedicated to creating a career after football & want to excel after life in college/NFL in Georgia you can't go wrong playing for UGA....

Know several former players from UGA and other schools like Furman,AU and FSU.
All graduated and do pretty damn well.They have degrees ranging from Business Education to Political Science to an MBA.
You don't necessarily have to go to Terry to be successful.Most of these guys had doors open up for them that would NEVER had happened had they not played CFB.
They really don't have to be a business major but they can't be getting Recreation degrees as well.

I mentioned this on the thread on the rant, but it's ridiculous to compare arbitrary rankings that use entire schools as the benchmark. We all know that the athletics departments, specifically football at UGA, receives the largest amount of notoriety at the institution. To truly measure the paper value of the degree, specifically concerning football, you'd need to look at football player median income over the 5 years post graduation (combination of education and network). Anything that is used to compare school A to school B when marketing to a student athlete or football player needs to use that subset of the population as the sample. Otherwise you're comparing apples and oranges.

Also saw where Radi said JR has lost some of that bad weight and has been playing like a beast the last two weeks. He had 6 TFL tonight and the game wasn't over yet. I'm not sure what he ended up with. But hopefully he's starting to look like his old self again.
