UK was hosting the girls NCAA tourney so they couldn't host.

If only the media liked us or we had a marketable name I dont think it would be an absurd reach

Interesting. Think we have to make the finals but that entails beating USCe a third time and UK and is extremely unlikely.

Before today I would have thought we were 100% barring winning the tournament, so that's progress

The NIT projection bracket looks like a mini version of the SEC tournament.

UGA has a good shot of getting past Miss St and SCAR. I would never bet money on this team, but let’s say they advance to play Kentucky and have a close lose. At that point, UGA would have 20 wins, possible top 50 RPI and a top 5 SOS. In other words they’d be squarely on the bubble. UGA does have some bad losses, more recently to Auburn, so I think our losses to teams with 100+ RPI will come back to bite us in the arse.

That loss to Auburn is a back breaker. If we had won that game, all we'd have to do, in my opinion, is win 1 game in the SECT and we'd be dancing. Bad losses down the stretch can kill your shot at dancing, and that was a really bad loss.

To be fair, the only reason we went from "no chance unless we win the SECT" to lunardi's "last 4 out" in the span of 3 days is because of our very good wins down the stretch. Just sayin..

At any rate, regardless of lamenting the bad losses or propping up the good wins...can we call agree how incredible it is to still have tourney hopes in March? I've followed the program for a little while and I'm sure there are many here who have followed it since before I was born. We aren't UK and never will be, but man it feels awesome to be where we are right now. IMO anyway. I feel like gone are the days where double digit overall wins was an ok year. We can debate on Fox for days but bottom line is this program is in much better shape and on far more solid footing than it has been in YEARS. And that's pretty exciting.

But what about all the close games we won or games we won that we shouldn't have?

Look, I love UGA. Graduated from UGA. Played for UGA. But in all honesty, this team is not even close to being tournament worthy. We absolutely don't deserve to even be considered. We need to get rid of Fox, spend some money on a new staff and lift our restrictions on recruiting AAU kids hardcore.

We have zero restrictions on recruiting AAU kids, every single player on our roster played AAU, that has nothing to do with it.

And that is true on the close games we could have lost, no doubt. But to say we aren't even close isn't true because we are close. Could have been a little better this year IMO, but we aren't that far off.

No Ogbeide early in the year hurt us. He is a much different player now after missing the first month and having to play his way into shape from there.

They are. Some bad losses have hurt us but we've shown that we're at least there in the conversation.

You spouted the same shite before the season. I didn't say we don't have or recruit AAU players....we just don't play the game like every other major college.

And if I'm wrong, then Fox definitely needs to go, because he hasn't done shite on the recruiting trail in GA.

Also, this team is not even close to being tournament worthy. Take off the red and black blinders and you'll see that. We've only beaten 1 team in the top 50 RPI and have lost to 5 others. Our RPI is currently 72....keep in mind there are only like 34 open spots after conference champions. 1 week ago we were struggling to keep a spot in the NIT....

Joe Lunardi, who ya know, projects the bracket for his living, has us in the first 8 teams outside of the bracket.

There are now 68 teams in the bracket, Louisville and SMU both aren't in the tourney this year, so that's 70. And then there are about 10 teams who will win their conference tourney who are outside the top 70 of RPI. So that puts it back at 60. So if you solely use RPI, we are 12 teams out. That's relatively close.

Actually we havent beaten a single team in the RPI top 50. South Carolina is #51. We are 0-5 vs 1-50, with only one of those games being decided by less than 10 points. We probably wouldnt even be in the running for a last 4 in birth if it wasnt for SMU and Louisville being on probation.

Crump and Harris are 2 top-100 guards from South GA who are big in the AAU game. How did we land them?

I like Fox, think he is a good coach but definitely has his weak spots. Not necessarily trying to defend him, just being honest.

So if we recruit all AAU players but don't "play the AAU game" like you said, are you implying we are the only team not breaking the rules in recruiting? I don't fully understand your claim.

And I agree our resume is not a tourney team, we had opportunities and didn't capitalize on them. But to sound like we are nowhere near isn't true either. A 70 RPI is a respectable team. For example last year Ole Miss was at 57 and LSU at 65 RPI both got in. That's definitely on the low end, low odds of getting in but they did get a bid.

I will say we usually get a favorable nod from the committee. Both times we made it under Fox we were considered on the bubble/last 4 in and made it comfortably in.

If we get a couple wins in the tourney, I'll get a little nervous on selection Sunday.
