From an Indiana site:

quote:

Class of 2014 Bloomfield Hills forward Yante Maten, the Gatorade Player of the Year in Michigan, committed to Georgia on Saturday night.

Maten announced the news on his Twitter account and his high school coach, Duane Graves, confirmed the commitment to Inside the Hall.

“In Georgia, he found a school that best fits his wants and needs,” Graves said. “Educationally and athletically. I think it’s a great school. He couldn’t go wrong with any decision he made with all of the great schools that liked him.”

Indiana had Maten on campus recently for an official visit after offering him a scholarship on an in-home visit in late March. Maten received a scholarship offer from Michigan State last week, but ultimately chose the Bulldogs.

He also had offers from Colorado, TCU and Utah, among others.

Graves said the offers from Indiana and Michigan State were certainly appealing to Maten and made it tougher for him to make a decision as the process moved on.

“I definitely think it made it harder for him,” Graves said. “As more schools came to offer, I think it was more challenging each and every time because you want to make the right decision and didn’t want to have any regrets. But he took his time and made the right decision that best fits him.”

The 6-foot-8, 225 pound forward averaged 19.8 points, 15.2 rebounds, 6.6 blocks, 4.8 assists and 1.8 steals last season as a senior and led Bloomfield Hills to the Class A championship game.

Maten is rated the 294th best prospect nationally in the class of 2014 according to the 247Composite.

Sounds like a nice find for Fox.

More like Jordan Schafer. Both hit a homerun their first at bat and haven't done much since.

Word is he has committed to our coaches and has been recruiting for us. He and his family are just determining how he wants to make a formal announcement (at G-Day, at Dawgnight, during a ceremony at school, etc.) It's a special time in a kids life and he wants to do it right. I can understand that.

Should do it on ESPN like Sony did, or at G-Day since there will be a lot of other prospects in attendance

Seems like he's getting antsy and is starting to want to commit sooner than later.

That would be nice.

It's a no brainer to choose uga. What a smart decision by this kid athletically and academically. It'll be great to see him in red and black. Go dawgs.

If he commits to us soon, he's going to drop. The sites will find something wrong with him and will swap him out with an uncommitted kid to play up drama and sell subs. Oh well...
