My slight withdrawal was a bit of pain in new places, trouble regulating body temperature and irritability.

I would hate to have a real serious addiction. I'm a caffeine junkie and I've never been able to quit even though I've tried.

Oh, I edited my first post with some more info if anyone is interested.

In the beginning, eat however many you need to qualm the craving.

I started with 4mg.

I have gone back and forth between the 4 and the 2, and this brand and that brand, and this flavor and that flavor. Right now I'm on the 4mg Kroger non-coated.

But they (non-coated) are a bitch to open while driving, they stick to the foil packaging when it's hot in the car. You don't want to run yourself under an 18 wheeler trying to get the little fricker out.

ETA- in the beginning, I only went through 5 or 6 pieces a day. Now I'm up to 15 or so. Supposed to work the other way, but at least I'm not smoking, right? And I'm not dipshitting around with a tire gauge either.

I leave a hell of a mess at a bar stool now. It definitely makes you feel like more of an addict, having this weird packet of medicine gum with you at all times.

It all has an alkaline substance in it, which is required for your mouth and throat to actually absorb the nicotine. It also dries your vocal chords out and makes you sound raspy.

I tried the gum before and it helped to cut down but it didn't work mainly because I hate chewing gum. The constant chewing makes me a nervous wreck. I also tended to swallow air and get heartburn.

Constant nicotine delivery without fluctuating levels of nicotine in the blood is the advantage of patches over gum. I didn't need to maintain a ritual like opening gum which is a bit like the smoking ritual. When I first went on the patches for a while I missed not having a ritual but that habit went away in a couple of days.

You guys do realize that if you go cold turkey you're good for the most part in 30 days and totally free in 90. 30 days isn't the end of the world.

What's the point in quitting smoking if you're chewing a pack of nocorette a day ...or huffing one of those esmokes? You have to cut the cord...

Im trying to stop injecting drugs into my arms and drinking. Ill deal with my opening pieces of gum habit if it develops

I am making an appt tomorrow for another pain clinic though. Im not trying to be the jonas brothers. life hurts. My halcyon days involved 120 10mg lortabs a month and lots of coffee. Things were so simple then

Cold turkey for nicotine subjects a person to needless suffering. The patches make it possible to be nicotine free and never suffer any ill effects. With the patch on, all day long I felt like I'd just smoked the best cigarette ever. April 6, 1999 was my quit date.

I wish they made patches for every possible addiction including caffeine.

I think most people that quit and stay quit do go cold turkey.

One thing I learned after years of trying to quit was that you're going to have to go through withdrawal whether you do it from gum, cigarettes, dip, patches, etc. The nicotine delivery system doesn't matter. Also, the wean you off slowly process just makes it longer and more drawn out. I stayed in a constant state of withdrawal over a couple of years fricking with different things until I finally just quit it all. I'm 4 yrs quit now.

Plus...if I was Chef I'd save smoking for last. Being able to smoke may get you through everything else. Hats of for trying to quit it all at once but damn....that's a bunch to take on..

Chef, I quit smoking two years ago on the one year anniversary of my MS diagnosis. Best thing I did. Also cut way back on the drink and improved my diet. After reading about I interferons and all the other crap, I wanted to really give it a go sans medication. I know there are better meds now, but I'm keeping the chemicals out of my body as much as I can.

Yea thats exactly my thinking. Actually been meaning to email you about it sometimes bud. I feel like if I didnt do everything I could and I saw an accelerated progression in the next few yrs id hate myself. Im already extremely active. especially considering my normal..lifestyle. Ive been getting alot of nonspecific body pain, constant acheing etc. Not to mention ive had some regrettable shoulder surgery that nags me every minute of the day. so hydrocodone daily is a quality of life thing. As long as I can polish up a few of the less pristine areas of my life of course

Gonna hit the park in athens this coming wknd btw. If you happen to be out. taking a long wknd from work and staying with a chick down that way
