Atlanta can and will consume your soul at some point I have lived IP, North & South of the city and as an account manager I can say a month in your car each year would be for a static office job minimum.
I did my time in purgatory but, if you want things and security in life one must pay the piper, no free rides exist even if you hit the lottery people will hound you for the rest of your days on this earth for a begrudging handout.

None of that would exceed my standard deduction. And it isnt 1099. There are zero tax advantages.

I hate them both equally.
So which one has better long term earning potential? Growth and development and yadda yadda yadda are one thing.....but cut the crap, if you hate the job you're after one thing. A paycheck.
Think about how long you can stand both of them, and then which one offers the most payback.
I'd consider which one might allow you to quit while you're still sane, after you've put away some coin, and do whatever it is that you really want to do also.

Did I mention I commute from Athens to ATL everyday?
Damn, me too!
I thought I was the only one. That said, I just resigned Tuesday after receiving an offer back in Athens.

People making this commute five days a week spend a little over 1 month PER YEAR sitting in their cars.

Hence why I've been trying to get out of here for a while now. Though I spent more than half my commute sleeping on a GRTA bus.

So when are you gonna make your decision?

Decision is made. Boss was out today, couldn't break it to him over the phone or email.

What type of business are you in? Are both of your current employers in the same industry?
You're planning on leaving your full time gig to go to your part time -soon to be full time gig correct?

Correct.

Yes, but opposite ends of the spectrum. One is installing all the hardware, the other is logging in to the hardware and doing work inside of it.

Have you looked over your contract with your current company to make sure you didn't sign a no compete clause? I know it sounds stupid but u have a good friend going through a legal nightmare right now with his previous employer. They are pretty much telling him he can't even mop floors for a company that does anything remotely close to his profession.
He will end up winning the case but it's going to cause him alot of stress and lawyer fees.

My non-compete is very specific because I am, and was upon my hire, a licensed contractor specifically in the line of work I was being hired to do, and my non-compete says only that I can't do that specific type of work under my license for this particular customer for a period of 18 months.
This customer isn't who I would be doing service for, first of all, and second of all, it's a completely different kind of work that requires no license.
18 months from now, things could get really interesting. Long slow dance.

If you agree not to be a dick like you have been previously I can probably throw another coal in the fire for you. My company has it jibs in Athens. Couldn't hurt. Up to you. Email me if interested.

I'm not actually an IT person. It's just easier to say IT than to explain what I really do.
