I think A&M serves as a hard firm reminder of what can happen if you don't get this right. They've never recovered after firing Slocum.

No argument, though Sumlin (.677) is the most successful full-season HC since Slocum (.721). If you don't do this right you might end up with Dooley (.417).

You laugh Weazel but you hit it on the head. People bring up all the anti Slocum and anti Groff rhetoric but I truly believe it was an overreaction and Slocum would've righted the ship.

A guy who’s already getting paid 4.8 million a year to do so, and also has far less pressure to win than he would in CS. He’s not as gettable as y’all think.

Why do people want him? Serious question.

He's 64-42 at a program with a losing record all time and led them to their first major bowl game since 1941. He's also still relatively young. I would rather have someone like Gundy for sure and probably Chip, but I would put Mullen over the up and comer types that have proven nothing.

If they go 9-3 or 10-2 this year I don't think anyone can question that he's a very good coach

The SEC is way down this year. We could honestly go 8-4 with our terrible team. I would take Mullen over Chad Morris or Chip. I just feel like we could do better.

I don't feel like we can do better unless we get really lucky. The track record on big programs hiring coaches recently place the odds significantly against us landing a big name.

I understand the arguments against Mullen and don't think he's a slam dunk at all, but I would be very interested to see what he could do with our resources. He is easily the second best coach in the conference right now, and he's been a head coach in our division for 9 years and understands the landscape. I think that counts for something as well

Agree with this 100%. In fact, I don't think A&M can get him even if we really wanted him. Unless we are willing to grossly overpay he wouldn't even consider it.

Mullen isn't coming to A&M. Period.

They are probably gonna be good this year, but it's still a little early to tell. Think about who is coaching at LSU.

This. Everybody was jumping on the South Carolina train after two weeks, and now they’re all jumping right back off after the Kentucky loss. Miss St will probably be pretty decent this year, but I want to see them play more games than just a vastly overrated LSU.

I think Mullen falls into the category of: we could do worse, but we could do better. And back to my original point that he isn’t as attainable as many would think. 4.8 million a year at a less pressure to win job is a pretty damn good spot to be in.

And if he is a Scientologist, then agreed on not wanting him just on principle. We are not lord cybertron’s reincarnated alien lifeforms or whatever.
