Isn't Davie under investigation?

possibly though the school is being very tight lipped about it.

quote:

New Mexico head football coach Bob Davie is under investigation after allegations surfaced concerning player mistreatment and questions about the school's drug-testing program, according a report from NMFishbowl.com.

According to the report, the school started investigation following several exit interviews with New Mexico players in the spring.

The website also said the school was "looking into specific claims of player mistreatment, as well as allegations about the athlete drug-testing process being compromised.”

“I can confirm there is an investigation underway in Athletics. We are not going to comment on the details or the individuals involved until the investigation is complete,” UNM spokeswoman Cinnamon Blair said in a statement.

LINK

that came out on September 13

the website the report originated on is a little dubious looking if you ask me (see for yourself LINK)though that doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong.

they posted a pretty serious hit piece on him from a couple of weeks ago LINK

again though, that site has an obvious "frick all people in power at UNM" slant so I'd take it's conclusions with a pretty big grain of salt.

9-3 is definitely the ceiling. we haven't beaten a good team yet and had trouble with two below average teams. hell, lost to a bad team in ucla. not sure how peeps think summy wins 9 games. possible i guess.

i tend to agree, but i didn't think the sec would be this bad. it's not out of the question that we could beat state, uf, om and lsu. i'd never have guessed that the aforementioned teams where gonna be this bad. not that we're all that either, and i wouldn't put money on us beating all four.

wow. i'd have to say keep summy if we go 9-3. not 8-4, but 9-3. the ucla game counts.

We aren't very good but I believe Ole Miss, MSU, LSU and NM are demonstrably worse.

People were impressed by MSU's throttling LSU, but think about what we did to UCLA for three quarters. UCLA is at least as good overall as LSU before LSU quit, and LSU doesn't have the QB play UCLA did that allowed them to come back. I submit that had we played LSU at home that night we would have dominated them thoroughly. I also don't think we'll lose by 40 to Auburn.

I think we're probably even with Florida and would pick us at home against them. Their offense isn't very good, their QB is in flux week to week and their defense isn't what it has been the last few years. They were taken to the wire at home by a bad Tennessee team and a Vandy team full of two stars with no offense. I expect to lose only because it's on the road and Sumlin hasn't faired well against teams with similar talent on the road since Johnny left. I believe Auburn is the only team we've beaten on the road since 2013 I would consider equal or better than us.

If we play EXACTLY like we did in the second half of the Arkansas and USC games I think we'll stumble into 8/9 wins.

All that being said, unless we win all those games AND upset Auburn I'd still fire Sumlin. I think we know what he is at this point and honestly our team next year will be experienced and reasonably deep, it would be a GREAT situation for a new HC to walk into.

You've been saying you'd fire him for like 3 or 4 years now. I think he could win the conference and you and CG would still say that at this point.

I would assume it was an anomaly but no, obviously if he wins out and we win the West he shouldn't be fired

I will say the only reason he shouldn't be fired at that is because of the optics. Nothing he does this year would change the fact that he SHOULD have already been fired, and WOULD HAVE been at many top programs. We have a 5.5 year sample size at this point, and good coaches simply don't let what happened in 2013-2016 happen CONSISTENTLY. Four straight years we collapsed over the final 6-7 games, once of which was with possibly the best college QB ever.

I'm being honest when I say literally nothing he could do from here out THIS season would change my mind about him. He'd have to do it consistently for several years to convince me he's fixed the inherent deficiencies in his coaching skill/philosophy.

Florida is definitely beatable in the Swamp...should have lost to UT and UK this season. Without Del Rio, they will be even more inept at QB.

Mississippi State has fallen apart after beating LSU.

Auburn looks significantly better than the rest in conference. You could catch them looking forward to their match-up with Georgia the following week.

New Mexico may actually be the second hardest game of this stretch, and they will be shooting for knocking off an SEC team while you will be coming off of a tough match-up against Auburn.

Ole Miss will probably be in complete shambles after back to back games against Auburn and Bama...if they lose the following week to Vandy at home, look for them to completely implode.

LSU will be coming off of a cripple fight in Knoxville against UT. There was a time this might have been a game to build off of. Now...LSU has nothing to gain and everything to lose in Knoxville. If they find a way to lose to Big Loss Lyle...they will drown their sorrows in fried turkey and gravy over Thanksgiving and will completely phone it in the season finale.

Auburn is the only one that I see as a probable loss. The rest are absolutely winnable.

I'm saying that you could easily finish the season 9-3 with a top 25 ranking. Probably finishing 3rd in the West and garnering a bid to either the Outback Bowl or the Tax Slayer Bowl. Either are very nice that time of year.

It's too early to say that State has fallen apart. Georgia and Auburn are really freaking good. It's totally possible that State is a good but not great team that simply ran into a buzz saw with back to back top 5-10 matchups.

They ran for almost 400 yards against us last year, and most of those guys are back. Not writing them off yet. Not given how we've looked.

It's late enough to say State never had it together. The three SEC games they've played have consisted of them beating a team that lost to Troy and getting destroyed by 2 good teams. I'm not saying we are better than them, but we should win a close game at home.

Georgia and Auburn are better than good. They look like top 5-10 teams. We now know State isn't great, but they can still be pretty good.

absolute best case is 10-2 (if you keep improving, Aub may be a winnable game)

worst case looks like 7-5

my expectation id 8-4

pulling for y'all; especially this weekend...

if you get into a coaching search, I believe you will be the top job on the board (and that includes if TN gets in there with you)

LSU is not firing Eaux this year, but even if they do - I still think aTm has an edge

why better than LSU & TN?

a prospective coach may be more comfortable with your fan base; everyone wants to win and expects performance, but LSU & TN have been a little more unreasonable with coaches expectation than most & I think that gives you an edge

but Penn State is one of those "destination job" type place - not sure you (or anyone) can get Franklin

EVERYONE that thinks they want a new coach should be super excited that Notre Dame & USC are looking really damned good

I will be surprised if Sumlin gets fired IF he goes 8-4 or better

but I am not as familiar with your Athletic Dept as you guys, so maybe I am wrong...

I'd put worst case at 5-7. All of our next 4 are easily losable games, and Ole Miss and LSU are both road games.

We'll very likely win 1-2 of those, but losing the lot isn't inconceivable, especially with a true fish qb.
