This will help more than anything. In so sick of seeing our slow motion roll outs and Tra the slow bus Carson getting caught from behind.

Tra as scat-back is even worse. We run flare routes with the guy but he's 240 and not fast or amazingly athletic. The only time I have seen that work with a big man was Jorvorskie but Jorvorskie was a freak. Us doing that with Tra is just another example of Spaz refusing to adapt the offense to the players and just jamming the players into his "system" instead, no matter what.

Feels like christiansens fault.

Not sure how much talent he has to work with, but it does feel like he might have tried to force a square peg into a round hole with his blocking approach.

Well Sumlin and Spav have committed to a offensive philosophy change, despite not having the personnel to do it right now.

I agree we needed to become more physical, but feel like moving towards the mean of other spreads in our conference betrays the competitive advantage Texas HSFB gives us, and the advantage obtained from being unique in the conference.

Texas hs fb pumps out elite QB's, WR, and Pass blocking tackles. It also produces great DE's and elite DB's.

Chavis scheme is perfect to recruit Texas for. Our offense was, but now I'm not sure after our transition.

This is how I feel about it. And I believe it's been quite a while since DC's been responsible for coaching OL

He coached OL the entire time at Mizzou (2001-2008). Was also OC the entire time.

At Wyoming, he had a guy named Pete Kaligis coaching OL. No clue how good the guy was, but the stats they put up were impressive.

TEs at Utah last year, while also OC.

I think it's reasonable to assume he knows how to build a good OL, but not sure how quickly it is possible to get done.

I think a couple of things are the problem. Some definitely Spav's fault, others maybe not.

1) we run WAY too many screens. Screens work when you have aggressive defenses blitzing, etc. and you catch them by surprise. When you run a screen every third play, they cease to be a surprise.

2) Way too many lateral plays that develop slowly. The hitches out to the wide receivers work if one blocks well and the other is a good runner capable of making the first guy miss. Some of our guys like kirk are good at this....others are terrible (RSJ). Quit throwing these to the guys that aren't good at them.

3) Most of our passes are outside of the tackles. We aren't attacking the middle of the field much at all. We are usually against nickel or dime defenses and we could be making some hay over the middle. Also, the threat of middle passes makes it less likely for linebackers to immediately step up when we are running inside because they also have to respect the fact we might throw over them. Since we basically never do that, if they step up for the run fake, they aren't hurt, so why not step up every time and crush our RB the times he does have it.

4) Why in the HELL does our QB run the zone read RIGHT BEHIND THE RB he just pulled the ball from? Usually it's a dive inside, and the QB runs outside. We seem to fake outside, pull the ball back, and run to the same place. What the hell? If you are going to run this play why don't you do a zone read with a counter action where the RB goes to one side and the RB goes the other?

To me what this boils down to is that it doesn't matter if the inside LB's crash down on the run, because we aren't throwing over the middle anyway, and nearly all our passes are short and outside the tackle boxes. You don't have to respect our deep routes.

We have excellent playmakers and they aren't being schemed into mismatches which a good offensive coordinator would be doing.

Also, i think our wide receivers coach isn't getting much out of these guys. Our route running is poor and needs to be worked on a LOT. Some of this was evident in the pro's with guys like EZ unable to make the team based on his inability to run routes. He had 5 years to get better at it and he didn't. That needs to start today.
