I hear ya. And honestly, I'm a much bigger fan of basketball than I am football, so I'm one of the few Aggies that would prefer to see our team win March Madness instead of the college football playoff. So believe me, the last few years of Aggie basketball have been brutal for me, and I sincerely hope that we can get this program turned around.
But I also acknowledge where I went to school. Texas A&M has always been a football school and it always will be. Doesn't mean basketball support is non-existent, because the first few years of my student life had some damn good teams under Turge, and Reed was packed and rocking. But team success (and consistent success) will be the ultimate driver of attendance.
If we are able to make the tourney this season, combined with the recruiting class we have coming in for next year, I can see Reed start to make a turn to becoming what it used to be in the past. Fingers crossed

Does it have anything to do with campus location? I know there are Aggies abound but I assume most of the fan base has spread out to the urban areas in all directions. A couple hours drive to watch a decent team in that traffic in the midweek?
Nah.
Nah.

There is a large enough student body thar Reed oughta be full for every game.

Well I warned TBird that I was going to infiltrate Underwood-style. He should've listened.

Saw Sloan at northpark in dallas today. Reminded me of the baptism, one of the best things to happen in aggie sports when I was there

Literally the happiest I have ever been after a college basketball game ever.

Going through a bunch of videos, that Joseph jones screen in that game was great as well

I'm somewhat envious of people who were in school for the BCG years.
I was there for Barone and Watkins. Students showed up for the Texas game and maybe Kansas. Reed was so empty most games that you could hear what Melvin was yelling at players.
Can't expect big crowds for weak ball, but it's always surprised me how many people just don't use their sports passes or tickets. I'm not even a big badketball fan, but I'd go every now and then just because I had paid for an all sports pass.
The problem isn't just that we're football first. The game isn't the only reason people show up for football; it's a massive social and cultural event. Basketball...is just the game.
If they want students to show up for mundane match ups, they'd seriously have to offer free food, parking lot entertainment, or something.
Side question: I know LSU and other schools have experimented with rewards points for ATTENDING events, not just purchasing passes. Has A&M done anything like that? "Student TMF" was the bold new idea when I was in school.
