It really changed the game, imo. If we were stuck with Bertolet, God forbid, I can see us making that call. But Lambo is/has been pretty damn good, so that was a real "WTF are you doing, Sumlin?" kind of moment.

I think if we played them again, we'd beat them. It was a rout in a sense, but we couldn't get on track after that first drive til the 4th quarter because we were just shooting ourselves in the foot time and time again. But give them credit, they followed a game plan that proved effective and executed well.

My guess is that the coaching staff had decided that we would need to reach at least X number of points to win the game as part of their game planning and that led to going on 4th.

My main issue with the play call is that we went right at MSU's defensive strength. They are very big in the front 7.

Other than that, it might have helped the offensive unit confidence just to get 3 points on that drive because of the mistakes we had been fighting through.

I think you also have to take into account that Hill was only playing in the 6th start of his career and only his 2nd hostile environment road game. His WR corps was struggling with drops when he did deliver the ball effectively.

No, if we convert the field goal on the second drive and throw 1 less interception, the game ends 48-41 and Mississippi State still wins.
