2013 > 2016

1. Lost at home by a combined 11 points in 2013 to national runner up Auburn and Alabama. Lost to 4 loss LSU and 7 loss Ole Miss in 2016.

2. Each team we lost to in 2013 had 10+ wins. Lost to two teams with a losing record in 2016.

3. You assume we win the bowl this year.

Okay that's fair. We still went 1-4 against ranked teams that year, so I would say this year is not far behind 2013.

Our likely opponents are K-State, TCU, or Baylor in the Texas Bowl.

I like those odds.

I like Chad, but trying to go cheap is not really a priority. The priority is making the right hire. Chad's not a major target for any other program this year, and if he continues the SMU resurrection, he'll be available next year.

We would beat any team in the state of Texas right now. And I'm aware we suck. We are still better than any of the other trash. Houston would give us a run for our money. Baylor and Tech are laughable. Texas lost to Kansas and will fail to go bowl eligibile again. TCU has Kenny Hill. SMU might be the 2nd best team in the state

Chad Morris lost 75-31 against Navy!!! Sumlin lost by 15 to LSU. I don't even like Sumlin, but you guys always gode me into this crap with weird arse ideas.

Sometimes I think the posters in this board just want a coach that isn't a minority and it's sad. Heard guys clamouring for sorry arse Sherman on the radio. Sherman started out 4-8 with a loss to Arky State and finished 6-6. Sumlin's never been that awful.

If we are going to talk recruiting, why not Franklin (PSU) or Niumatalolo (Navy)? Ken bested Herman and annihalated Morris. He is competing for a title and he is only making $1.6M.

This is why people think you're a troll

FWIW I would take Franklin in a second but I don't see him leaving Penn State. I have zero desire to see us run the triple option though

I can rattle off at least 3 minority coaches who are better than Sumlin right now.

David Shaw (Stanford)
James Franklin (Vanderbilt and Penn State)
Ken Niumatalolo (Navy)

I'd even put Derek Mason from Vanderbilt ahead of Sumlin after the mess that Franklin left for him.

It's not just sad, it's offensive that you would post this.

I'm not sold on Chad Morris either, but people preferring him to Sumlin has zero to do with skin tone.

And "zero" is exactly the amount of consideration that should be given to skin tone when looking for Sumlin's replacement. Which is why it's very odd that you suggest Franklin as a potential option. Why on earth would Franklin consider leaving Penn State now, after he's gotten PSU into the top 10?

And Niumatalolo, who is mormon, last year turned down the HC job at BYU, passing up the opportunity to coach at least one and maybe two sons. He's been at Navy since 2002.

Both coaches are good, but neither is a likely candidate to move, because both are happy where they are.

I think Morris is a hard worker, but my biggest question with him is how or if he could fix our biggest problem, which is toughness and ability on the front 7 on defense. He's a TX guy with TX connections, which is good in many ways, but I would be afraid that he would have us in the same strategy and pattern as far as recruiting the DL and LB spots.

Regardless I think every A&M fan will be following SMU pretty closely next year

Yea, I do. Baylor has completely melted down and the players and staff have clearly checked out on the season. They are about to be one of the few teams ever to start 6-0 but finish 6-6.

TCU has been a shell of their former selves w/a bad defense and sputtering offense. It took a miracle for them to beat Kansas and they had trouble scoring on Texas Tech's weak shite D.

KSU is average at best and plays fairly close games regardless of the opponent. They'd probably be the toughest matchup due to their QB's running ability but even with Snyder being a magician they aren't anywhere near one of his better teams.

How can anyone really?

To get those recruits we need some success, and to get success we need to beat people we shouldn't beat.

Its a brutal Catch 22.

Someone with a track record of coaching teams that excel there (developing those players) or recruiting in geographic areas we need to focus more on would be a start. Not saying any coach that would be available is an obvious solution, but Morris is a total mystery when it comes to that.
