It's been over a month and a half and this is still too funny.

a coach also doesn't get paid 5mil a year to be average. we aren't bad during sumlin's tenure, but we aren't that good either.

9-3 or find a new coach. chad morris is the guaranteed floor for the next coach. may as well see what we can get if summy can't manage 9-3 record.

So we are paying for top ten results and getting top 25

That's last year's list

not getting top 25 either. sumlin finished the season in the top 25 his first two years. that's it.

definitely the gripe around here.

paying top 10 money for top 15 recruiting and not even top 25 results.

that said, i'm all on board the rumlin bumlin stumlin train if he finishes 9-3. i'll still be apprehensive, but somewhat optimistic for 2018.

Ditto on my old lady's comment.

(I have to say that or he'll kick my arse.)

I would be able to live with a contract extension that REDUCES Sumlin's leverage if it comes to that, but I have absolutely no faith in our administration who seems to enjoy taking it up the arse during negotiations.

that's my fear. i can see extending him if he goes 9-3, but he doesn't deserve more buyout money. still have 10mil left on it after this year. one year extension through 2020. that would still be a 3.33mil per year buyout. nothing wrong with that.

I think he is the kind of coach that's more likely to win 9 with a bad or young team than win a conference with a playoff caliber roster.

Him winning 9 this year would do nothing to soothe my concerns. I'm ready to rip the bandaid off and allow a new coach hit the ground running with a young talented roster ready to be coached.

This is probably along the lines of what I would be willing to offer under each scenario:

7-5 or below = FIRED
8-4 (Lose to AU and LSU) = Fired
8-4 (Lose to AU and UF/MSU) = Gets to coach win or be fired bowl game. No extension regardless of result.
9-3 (9-4 w/ bowl loss) = 1 year extension. No raise. No additional buyout.
9-3 (10-3 w/ bowl win) = 2 year extension. No raise. Additional $2.5 mil/year buyout. So it would still cost $10 mil to buy him out after next year.
10-2 = 2 year extension. Tiny raise ($100-200K). Fully guaranteed but drop the payable in 60 days clause. The buyout would still be payable over the life of the deal.

i'd like to see the same thing. what if he wins 9 or 10 this year then goes back to 8 wins a year.
