unfortunately i agree. it doesn't matter who we hire. sumlin is a lame duck coach who will be lucky to win 8 games next year. 8 wins in college is like having a .500 record.

we have to get the next hire right. i want a coach who has proven himself to be a great football mind as a coordinator, not another one of these ceo type chumps, but a guy who has shown he can run a program AND coach at a high level.

If Spurrier is the new OC, I give up on Aggie Football until a new HC is announced .

Thought experiment that may have no basis in reality. Suppose some NFL team hires Sumlin or he is bought out and sent on his way.

1. Would we offer the head coach job to Coach Chavis? I don't even know that he wants to be a head coach.

2. Offer the job to a current head coach elsewhere. Herman, Fedora, Morris and Dykes come to mind.

3. Or offer the job to a coordinator. Meacham, maybe?

For those wanting Sumlin gone, who are the realistic candidates?

I forgot about Miles. The situation between him and that AD seems unsustainable. One must go at some point.

Does it really? I used to think so, when he fired Snyder and hired Chavis, but what if Roger's claim that Sumlin didn't want to fire Snyder is correct? If Sumlin was essentially forced to do so, then even if he replaces all the offensive staff, can we be sure he isn't just responding to pressure?

I mean, I'll still get excited about a Meacham hire, but I'm not sure that will restore any of my faith in Sumlin.

TCU's offensive transformation under Meacham has been impressive. What I don't get is why he would make that kind of lateral move. Maybe it's for significantly more money?

It does fit Cumbie staying at TCU, if Meacham is on the move.

Contrary to widespread belief, a lot of us don't want him gone just yet (some do though). What a lot of us want is Spavital gone. He's the motherfricking problem. Sumlin may have his problems, but he's earned the right to be here at least one more year with what he has shown.

But make no mistake, if he brings back Spavital...then I'll support him... , but I'll still support him. He is the man in charge and if he thinks it's the best option to win, then let him do his thing. It's his career on the line and we shouldn't force anything on him. Let him run the program the way he thinks it should be run instead of our boosters butting in and forcing stuff on him (like Kyler Murray).

If I'm the CEO of a company and I hire a 20 year old business major to be my company's head of accounting, is the inevitable failure his fault or mine?

Spav isn't good, but he had no business being the sole playcaller of an SEC offense.

Kingsbury was unproven until he was our OC. Yet he has a real gift as a playcaller. I suspect Sumlin saw similar qualities in Spavital. It was the wrong hire, as it turned out.

If the Meacham rumor is true, it seems like a sound hire. But, he has no experience with SEC defenses. Who is the proven SEC OC candidate out there, the offensive equivalent to Chavis?

Whoever is hired, there's going to be some doubt if he can get it done. The way Meacham resurrected the TCU offense is his resume. But will it work with our personnel against our opponents? Keep in mind our shaky QB situation.

Kingsbury helped groom keenum, tore it up as OC at Houston, and was older + had more experience. I don't think he's a good comparison.

Unsubstantiated rumors about Sumlin to Colts offered me enough hope that I am watching OU Clemson game surrounded by 100 lit prayer candles.

Wife locked out of room so as not to break hopeful silence.

I haven't performed a Google search on the subject, but is that "blowing up" anywhere else besides this message board?

Lots of scuttle on Twitter about Sumlin getting the axe.

Have to admit, I'll feel a little vindicated. I tried to tell everyone he wasn't safe.
