Solich went to Ohio. Mackovic sat out like five years between UT and Arizona. It's definitely rare, I think Muschamps reputation is strong enough he might have some interest but I don't see him going anywhere but an SEC ACC or Big 12 south school. So the opportunities might be limited. We will see

Back on point, he would be a hell of a coup and I think his best career move would be to come to a school like ours with talent coming in and a good offense and rebuild his rep completely

you never know what's in someone's mind but imo, we are about as perfect a fit for Muschamp to quickly rehabilitate his career as possible.

It's quite likely whoever we hire is going to be very successful very quickly given the talent they inherit and, because of the dynamic with Sumlin being an offensive coach, that person is going to be given a ton of credit. Fast turnaround. 100% Credit. Good story that will generate media attention (as he returns to Texas).

And so is South Carolina, Auburn, and UCLA.

Time to go hire him as our next d coord

I love teasing USC fans about this but the truth is he is on the record that he hates College Station. Every man has his price, but we might not be the only program willing to pay his.Honestly I feel there are SO many good options its dumb to focus on Boom when he probably will sit out a season.

Heck I look at a Ole Miss or a Missouri- you can't tell me that entire defensive staff for either wouldn't take a raise in a heartbeat. Our staff on the defensive side seems so poor, so many options are upgrades. Boom is just a sexy name and a yet another way we can stick it to Texas. I want someone who wants to be here.

not really

SC - no where near the talent. No where near the resources to get more. It's a much longer term build. And frankly they don't have as high a profile as we do (they've been more successful over the last few years than us, but get far less media attention)

Auburn - as much as their fans want it, they aren't likely firing Ellis. But if they do, I agree that will be one to watch

UCLA - Muschamp has zero ties to the west coast. Mora is a defensive coach, not offensive. They do have some young talent but the job has like 1/10th the profile of an SEC job (take a look at UCLA tv ratings if you don't believe me)

None of those teams have Myles Garrett either. And that may be the single biggest selling point. If you want to look like a genius, the first step is having a once in a generation player to work with

I agree on Auburn, I dunno about the other two. I know he has a good relationship with Spurrier but I think we are built to win big right now with the right DC and a little bit of experience for our young players on D (both already here and recruits on the way in). I'm not sure they offer the same opportunity. I also think we can offer more money

I don't see UCLA being a good fit. He recruits the south well and despite them taking every damn LB I've ever wanted us to get, their base is still out there. Ditto on the money.

I honestly don't know how hot Johnson's seat is at Auburn, though the fans I talked to there were pretty unhappy, that was in the heat of the moment. That would obviously be a great fit and a familiar place

I disagree. There won't be a single DC available with his track record. Plus I think people take those comments way out of context, shite like that gets said at coaching events for fans all the time.

If he says no you move on but he should be the first name on the list

Agreed, but I think too many of our fans look at it as a square peg and a square hole- as if Sumlin flunks the offseason if we don't get Boom.

I want him too, I just realize that he is our Nick Saban.

Oh I agree with you there. I'm not gonna be pissed or anything if we don't get him, especially if it's because he wants to take a year off. Plenty of other good candidates out there

Isn't this Lorenzo Ward's first season as defensive coordinator?

Another factor that we're not talking about:

Will Muschamp's defensive line coach when he was the Auburn DC was none other than....Terry Price
