The problem was the oline on offense. We had no running game at times. D had 2 or 3 in our backfield on passing downs way too fast and way too often. Calzada was a problem.,, not even close to THE problem.

Calzada running for his life was the bigger problem and it isn’t close. He was able to run and get rid of it. If he stayed in pocket we give up 30 sacks and he ends his year without his head attached.

He didn’t acquire a reputation for being a tough guy because our oline was so good he hardly got touched and was sacked so little. Quite the opposite.

I think you are confusing the absolute athleticism displayed by our running backs to make something out of nothing and break long runs. They did this despite… not because of… good blocking.

Calzada’s issue is between the ears. It is why he was so erratic. It is why he will not start at Auburn either …

Yep, seeing reports he hasn’t impressed much during summer camp and is likely to be third string at Auburn. Will always be thankful for that Bama win, but outside of that the dude just didn’t have it.

Look at it this way.

He sucks so bad he's 3rd string on a bad team.

He started for us and we won 8 including Bama.

It shouldn't take much to move from 8 to 10+ with improved QB play.

I rewatched the 1st half of the Auburn game last night, 3 to 3 at half. A real barn burner.

The OL and RB looked ok. QB looked bad, TE dropped pass after pass, but WR was the weakest link. Chapman and Smith were the only 2 who ever got open. We really need an upgrade outside, we need the 3 freshman to be the real deal in the worst way.

Maybe it was scheme, but lack of speed was part of the problem for sure. And Demas was probably the worst player on the field.

That's what I'm hoping. Although remember last year it was reported that the QB competition was pretty close throughout camp before King was named the starter. Hopefully that was just "coach talk" and King really is head and shoulders above Calzada because while I'm glad we got Johnson for some depth in the QB room, seeing a few of his games and what LSU fans say about him has me thinking hes just calzada 2.0....

I think thats why we had the coaching shuffle. Dameyune Craig is a good recruiter, but our receiving corps has been a weak link for several seasons and Jimbo is trying to shake something up there. Hopefully it works. No doubt our receivers didnt help out the QB but Calzada had so many missed reads, throws off the backfoot, etc. too

Those dickheads are just salty.

#s don't lie.

He's much better than Zach.

2185 Yards
56.1%
6.7 per Att
17 TD
9 INT
123.7

vs

2815 Yards
60.3%
7.5 YPA
27 TD
6 INT
144.4

He's very Mond esce with less running ability and holds on to the ball too long.

Max starting would be a disaster, especially for those that want a more explosive offense. I cannot wait to see this defense play - they have the most talent I've seen since the wrecking crew days

Disagree with the loss of Elko. He was great and all but I don't think we miss a beat with Durkin in charge.

This. Defense has always been my favorite phase of the game. Additionally, great defense is what really gets the crowd going and enhances home field advantage. Kyle Field is gonna be rockin'!

I’m incredibly excited about our secondary. Antonio Johnson may end up being the best defensive back in America.

It is starting to look like AJ at nickel and other safety may be Matthew’s over Gilbert. This freshman class is insane. And Enai getting work with the LB’s

Defense is going to save this team's bacon multiple times this year. The OL is a MASSIVE concern

Sam has the best offense at that level and a better offense than a bunch of G5 teams. Shutting them out isn’t some huge feat but it’s not nothing. Miami gave up 300 yards and was a dropped TD away from having 20 put on them by Bethune who went 2-9 last year in the fricking SWAC.

Go back and look at when we played them in 2012-2013. I think we gave up nearly 50 combined points in two games and that was before they were an elite FCS program.

This. That's the correct perspective, honestly.

We blank App State this week and it may not matter how bad the OL is. That's a UGA-level defense
