Just remember, 8.5/10 and 85% are not the same -___-

oof. It's crazy you have this thought given what is going on with Spav right now. His stop at A&M probably set his career back at least 10 years. That's not worth the money.

I am going to have to disagree. Spav set himself back by not being good at his job. I highly doubt things would be different elsewhere. He would probably struggle when given an opportunity and get the setback later on.

I'm trying to avoid the Spav debate but despite the A&M fanbase opinion, he's very highly thought of in coaching circles still (but radioactive). OTOH if Manziel sticks around another year, Spav is a head coach in a P5 conference right this minute.

Kingsbury got a head coaching gig because he got the right job at the right time. Stick too long (Chavis/Foster) despite consistent longterm success and you may never get a shot.

Jon Tenuta was the hottest name in DCs (and I believe the highest paid) but when he took the ND job, he was out with Weiss a year later and spent the next 5 years as a LB coach. And now is unemployed again.

My point is situation has maybe as much to do with success and failure in the coaching business as talent. Don't think of the money or job prestige. Examine chance for success. That's what opens the next door for a young coach.

You mean Shuttlesworth's latest "conversation with a big cigar" doesn't count as something to laugh at?

Upvoted! When I check in on this board and see that there's a new post in this thread, I eagerly click. And then instead of laughing at the sips I find out how much TCU's OC is making. Whut?

while I certainly sympathize I'm not sure where actual football discussion is supposed to be posted. Every single other thread on this board including the OT is just a fricking Spav melt

He would take over a known dumpster fire, Spav took over a top 10 offense, which fairly or not, was perceived as loaded with talent.
Cumbie would get 3.5+ million to take over a bottom 20 offense, nationally mocked for their qb's on roster. That gives plenty of breathing room for finding his next gig.

I just think it's not really the same as Spav's situation at all.

Can we please keep all of the talk about Spavitard in the designated melt thread?

I want to point out that the whorns went 6-6 and 5-7 and are still retaining Strong for at least one more year, if he wins 6 and a bowl next year he will get another according to his new contract terms

Sherman went

4-8
6-6
9-3

He improved the team

Strong is even worse than Fran, they will never even sniff 7 wins with him

What I read was that in order to offer Cumby he needed to show that there would be continuity if progress was shown, so they rewrote Strongs deal to say if he wins 6 + a bowl next year he is guaranteed to coach in 2017. That was an incoming assistant coach wouldn't fear a quick hook

IDK, it was either in the sip tears thread on premium from OB or I read it on shaggy. They said it was the only way Charlie thought a good oc would consider an offer
