I'm indifferent.
Ultimately, I'd leave the decision to the twelve families.

It's almost as silly as the proposed statue of random fricking fans.
This literally is the only thing I don't like about the redevelopment. Everything else is awesome. So it's really just a minor grievance.

aren't we going to have a statue for like every single tradition?

I hope not it would look like a graveyard.

don't like it one bit. Forced at best, disingenuous at worst.

I think each seat will have a name of one of the 12 on it.
12 students died, we continue to remember them and give seats (that if they were alive they might have sat in to watch our games) in their honor.
Seems fine to me. I wouldn't have thought of it if I was the one building the stadium. But I suspect it was included in the package to get more old Ags on board with donations. That's not a cheap shot or politics, it's just giving some of the old Ags something in return for ther dedication to the athletic program

The Bonfire memorial is an appropriate and amply sufficient monument to the memory of the 12 who died.
Ditto. The seats thing just seems pointless, particularly 15 years after the disaster.
As an aside, I watched John Sharp talk and he did not mention the 12 dead students - the seats were a tribute to the 12th man. But that makes even less sense.

Ding ding ding. We have a winner.

If they want to go that angle then fine, but they should still fill them with students or longtime fans who are awarded the honor of sitting in the seats.

Who came up with this idea,Jason?

I'm inclined to agree with the folks who feel it is a marketing stunt. We're trying to create a tradition for every damn aspect of the stadium, and it just doesn't seem necessary from a practical perspective.

I like it a lot, actually. Should have been done a long time ago, but doing it now doesn't diminish its efficacy IMO. And the fact that there is already a Bonfire memorial is a non issue to me.
Yes, I realize I am in the minority

Discuss.
Good in theory but probably bad in execution. As the TMF becomes the Billionaires Boys Club it could be the longstanding reminder that 20 years from now the average guys got "priced" out of the live stadium experience to make room for the big nameless corporations and their overcompensated bosses waiting for the golden parachute to jump ship with.
In 20 years the empty seats could be the sad reminder of folks who can no longer afford to see TAMU play live games and are relegated to the TV experience. The golden age of college football may already be behind us in the same sense that "peak oil" is already in our past.

Agreed for the most part. I'm not sure making the stadiums more comfortable and expensive is the way to go. Can you really ever compete for comfort and convenience with someone's home media room? Doubtful. Therefore the focus should be on going a different direction with the in-stadium experience so as to corner a niche that the home experience cannot provide. What that niche is, I don't know, but I'm not an executive either.

Didn't we do that with the closer to the field, louder in-stadium noise, bigger scoreboard, etc. type stuff?
Do we need Disney? (JJ)

First, the statement on www.kylefield.com was developed to better clarify the rationale behind the meaning of the 12th man section proposed for for the east stand, second deck. It is meant as a visible tribute to the spirit of the 12th Man.
“The planned 12th Man seats, which will be left open in the second deck of the east stands of redeveloped Kyle Field, are a living and visible tribute to the spirit of all members of the 12th Man who have come before at Texas A&M,” the release states. “It is a symbol of the respect all students and former students have for the hard work and sacrifice that went in to making this land grant University what it is today — one of the best in the country. Kyle Field is a very special place for all Aggies and we believe this section is a very special tribute to one of our most honored traditions, the 12th Man. While some have reported this is solely related to the bonfire tragedy, that is inaccurate.”
Second, I understand that you believe this to be inconsistent and contrary to the tradition of the 12th Man. We appreciate your feedback.
The team that developed this idea has been integral to all phases of the Kyle Field Redevelopment and have received positive feedback to date. It is felt that this will provide yet another reason to discuss the 12th Man as a unique trademark of Texas A&M, particularly during nationally televised games. This is good for the brand and the university.

I guess I just don't understand why some folks are so irate about this.
It's a nice (and unique) tribute. Completely necessary? Of course not. But I think it's getting blown out of proportion by some.

Good. This puts me back down in the "it's dumb, but oh well" bucket.
I assume most were getting irate over the bonfire angle as I would have.

I'm not irate (to T-Bird), I just think it's a bad idea. I can see getting irate over the bonfire bit, but the stated reasoning makes even less sense to me. The 12th Man isn't 12 men, it's everybody. And empty seats? How are empty seats supposed to represent the 12th Man? This makes no sense to me at all.
To me this is a poorly-conceived marketing ploy and the next Aggie joke.
