Also I was going to try to make Gainesville when we went but there's no way I'm missing the 2017 Rose Bowl trip. Slive fricking with my travel plans!

save up. Do both. It's not like we're going to play at either place again anytime soon!

Very true. I probably won't do a trip in 15 the way it's looking anyways

Well hopefully not true for the Rose Bowl

The reasons behind the PAC and B1G acting pissy about the SEC/ACC staying at 8 is explained in this ESPN article.

The gist: it's expensive to buy home games. One way to alleviate that is for all the major conferences to have fewer OOC games. By keeping 4 slots, the SEC/ACC have higher demand, thus increasing expenses for all. This is especially a problem for B1G schools since they agreed to no FCS.

quote:

"If they'd gone to nine, obviously there's a lot more inventory out there because they would only schedule three [nonleague games]," Smith said. "Everyone is trying to schedule the same types of nonconference games in the same window of time, September. It's challenging."

IMO this is an incredibly petty on the B1G's part. But I do think there is more here as well as many of the G5 schools would rather play an SEC or ACC school to begin with because they want to raise their exposure in recruiting areas. For instance, I wouldn't be shocked if Ball State gave us a discount for the Texas and SEC exposure. That means B1G schools may have to pay more than SEC schools. And it may stress the smaller revenue schools across the P5.

Just another illustration of how the undercurrent is favoring the SEC into the future.

After reading that article I'm even more convinced that a major part of the reason they wanted 9 is more to hide that the Big 10 is in decline than anything. They just want one less game to be considered a potential "major" upset. The money isn't the issue w/how much they are making with BTN. It's laughable that they seem to want to avoid home and homes in favor of neutral site games while hiding behind the money issue.

I think we should be playing 9 league games. As a season ticket holder, I think it sucks that we have one game a year against a FCS school that we really should not be playing.

A 9 game conference schedule is not going to end FCS games. Sorry but it won't. I have no idea why people seem to think it would.

The only thing that could do that is for the SEC to outright ban setting up FCS games.

More interesting talk

An SEC source said about four or five teams from each league are discussing potential home-and-home matchups for some time in the next 6-7 years. These would be new matchups aside from the permanent end-of-year rivalries such as Florida-Florida State, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Clemson-South Carolina and Louisville-Kentucky. Neutral-site-heavy teams (think LSU/Alabama from the SEC and North Carolina/Virginia Tech from the ACC) are likely out of that mix, too, according to the source.

Ha! I noticed the Fowler tagged the longhorns in that article (under "Topics"), even though they aren't mentioned at all. They're the only non-SEC/ACC school to get that treatment.

Anyway, I think if we get paired w/ an ACC school, I'd hope for Virginia or NCState. Combined w/ USC as our permanent rival, that might open up the area recruiting-wise.

I'd prefer VT but UVA fine b/c I think we'd wax them in every game.

NC State is very up and down so while I think we'd own the overall series they would probably win one here and there.

Nice. I had to leave during the 3rd quarter last year because of the heat. People were dropping like flies that game.

I survived all three overtimes of the 2007 Fresno State game as a freshman but by the end I had lost my shirt, was so dehydrated I had stopped sweating and nearly passed out walking back to the dorm.

I will move before I'm that hit again

There should be a law against daytime games in September at Kyle.

And so that leaves MSU and while they played OSU at neutral last year, I can sort of see the point. It's not exactly a destination opponent for anyone and they aren't near other P5 schools. I can see them having problems.

While it's a helluva long way out, MSU did in fact find a pretty decent home/home P5 opponent

I wish we still had Timmy D and him around but I hope they continue to do well. I think they're both gonna have great careers.

Yep, I hope they both go on to have great careers. It's also nice to see former coaches at mid-majors doing well because it greatly expands the talent pool for the next head coach search
quote:

"From a football point of view, the Texas A&M game offers our players and fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience Kyle Field, one of college football's great atmospheres," Polian added. "Having spent a season in College Station, I can attest to what a unique place it is to play a game. It also gives us a chance to have a presence in the state of Texas, where we have committed recruiting resources and have found some success."
