Duke was put here on this earth to lose his wife to an Aggie and bring mirth of all kinds to Aggies everywhere

I saw Deadpool yesterday and finally understood the reference that is Wade Wilson.

Yeah I thought it was a reference to the former Dallas Cowboys backup QB for the longest time

I'm not a big comic book guy.
It finally clicked for me a few years back when I randomly stumbled upon a deadpool/ww reference elsewhere.

So I came across a story today about some students wanting to become the first female Yell Leaders.
LINK
What do you guys think about it? From a non-born-and-raised Ag it doesn't really bother me that much. Seems pretty cool. But as tradition-laden as A&M is I was wondering if you guys care about this or if the change bothers anyone?
I also believe that the 2nd ever female was elected to be the Corp Commander... the first being last year.
Sorry gents, this might be my fault. Where I go the ladies just seem to follow.

They can vie all they want.
If they don't get the sorostute vote, they won't be elected. End of Story.

Not the first time females have tried, but as always, I hope it happens. At least until we finally get a cheer/dance squad on the sidelines to go along with the YLs. If there's room for both yell and cheerleaders in Reed Arena, there's room at Kyle Field.
I love the tradition of the yell leaders. Big part of TAMU tradition. Don't see why we can't have female YLs. Hell, the Corps is going on it's second straight year with a female commander (that young lady is from my wife's senior year outfit: Sq. 12 ).

No one says we can't. There needs to be a MASSIVE paradigm shift though before that happens due to three factors:
1. Only around 10-15% of the student body votes in the elections. (Assume a voting body of about 8,000 at most)
2. The Corps almost always votes as one block for their five candidates. (That's a voting block of about 2,400 right there, or 30% of the electorate)
3. The largest voting block on campus is the sorority block. (close to 45-50%)
If a woman can overcome those three factors and gets elected...more power to her, but it's not good odds. If...and I mean a BIG IF, the rest of the school ever votes in a group, there's nothing the Corps Block can do to overcome those numbers.
The reason that the Corps usually gets all five yell leaders, and has never gotten fewer than four, is because of the aforementioned factors.
The one time that the Corps Block candidates didn't comprise at least 4 of the 5 yell leaders was during the Spring 1996 election in which Gary Kipe had the full support of the Aggie Band and ended up splitting the Corps vote, resulting in two of the incumbents losing and Gary Kipe and Jimbo Cross (non-reg) getting elected.
There was significant retaliation as a result. Gary's boots were destroyed and the Aggie Band, after an idiot brown pot in A-Battery split the redpots' log in half, lost the outhouse to PMC. If you believe in superstition, it should have not been a surprise that t.u. beat us 51-15 (with the last Aggie Touchdown coming off of a late kickoff return).

That statement is a perfect example of: "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. And from the inside looking out, you can't explain it."
I personally understood about half of it, but I am THE 2%er.

I at least have the excuse of graduating in 2012, but yeah I didn't understand any of that either

It's not that hard.
Gary Kipe, Senior Yell Leader Class of 1997, and a member of the Corps of Cadets, ran against the Corps Block (group who vets and selects the candidates to represent the Corps in the elections for Yell Leader and Student Body President) and won because his voting block, to include the entire Aggie Band split the Corps vote resulting in he and one other beating the two incumbents in the runoff.
Other cadets who were angry at the result broke into his room his senior year and destroyed his senior boots in retaliation.
When Bonfire was built, the outhouse at the top was build and lined with saltpeter by the Aggie Band. In 1996, that privilege was taken away from them and given to Parson's Mounted Cavalry.

Oh yeah, I wasn't trying to dispute the politics of why we haven't had one yet, just saying there's no good reason why we shouldn't.

There's also an archaic bylaw in place that disqualifies any candidate that campaigns off campus.

That rule should have been changed to more of a "guideline" (a la Pirates of the Caribbean) a long time ago
