WTF!

I haven't seen or heard about something that stupid since Gary Kipe was "punished" for running against Corps Bloc.

For those of you who don't know, (and this was before my freshman year, so my understanding may be wrong) there was an issue with one of the yell leader candidates for senior yell leader with Corps Block before the 1996-1997 Academic Year.

Kipe ran despite not being selected by Corps Bloc. He was able to get pretty much all of the Aggie Band to vote for him, which split the vote and ended up knocking out one of the incumbents who was tagged for head yell leader. Jimbo Cross, a nonreg, ended up in place.

As a result, Gary's senior boots were destroyed and a series of events caused the Band to lose the outhouse for the bonfire (it didn't help that one of my zips cut the redpots' log up) to PMC.

Figures it would be a Q. You rat bastards are just fricking weird.

I'm a topic of these posters, that's fricking nuts. No way anyone in the core is doing that. Unless the mentality of the court has significantly changed since I was there, the court would be much more likely to play pranks such as painting a door or doing something directly to a frat house or other non-Reg dorm. It's has some weird other group written all over it. Probably The Aggie Democrats.

Lol at New Balance.

This is my favorite one:

Reminds me of K West's "vote or die."

Kipe wasn't a Q. The Band had a beef with the other candidate.

Funny thing is Jimbo was my DG leader at fish camp. He was a good dude.

Jimbo was never the issue. He was just the by-product, just like Ricky Wood was the target of angry zips and butts ordering their fish to be extra rough with him in the 1999 season.

Jeff Bailey had to basically lay down the law to get them to stop.

Glad Corps Bloc let him run basically unopposed the following year.

Oh I know. I just find it funny that so many got bent when such a good guy ended up in the position.

Back to the subject at hand, if I were the Commandant, I would brutally crush this movement if it is being perpetuated by cadets and not by a shithead trying to attribute it to them.

Most of what I have heard is that no one really thinks the corps

With the history of doing childish things when it comes to Yell elections, I wouldn't rule out the corps. Wasn't there a scandal about corps members stealing bundles of newspapers early one morning because an article uncovered dirt on a potential yell leader? I think it was my last year at A&M IIRC. 2011???

Didn't necessarily want to start a new thread but our men's tennis team clinched a share of the SEC title after beating LSU 4-0 in Baton Rouge.

Aggies are 11-1 and UGA is 10-1. UGA has Ole Miss left at home (which they will likely win).

UGA will get the 1-seed in the SEC Tourney as they have the head-to-head tiebreaker and A&M will be the 2-seed.

anyway...

Holy shite! That's all the fuss was about? A Corp with an anti-Greek sign? I had heard about some signage that was pissing people off, I thought it might have been something super sexist or racist, not this shite.

I figured Corp v. Greek would be a natural tradition at A&M.

Not at all, it is not a new development but it isn't a resolved one that is codified in tradition yet. The situation has been a powder keg for a while because The Corps have most of the political power, visibility and influence but the frats have been much larger in total for a over a decade. No one would expect the frats to demand concessions or anything like that- they respect the corps too- but even back in the early 2000's there was a tension that frats at A&M didn't get the respect they deserve. The Yell Leader elections are a perfect place for it all to boil over because its a popularity contest, and the corps just don't have the numbers anymore to win on sheer votes because if the frats actually mobilized and united.

My theory is the real tension is women. For a long time the corps was the closest thing A&M offered to a frat for many students, but many females didn't want to be a part of a mostly male organization. This created an environment where sororities came into being that only dated the corps instead of aligning with fraternities like every non-commuter campus in America. These women are known as boot chasers, and they remain an exclusive benefit of the organization no matter how dorky or pimply the men can be. If they have boots with spurs, those boots will be chased. But just like no-child-left-behind in China this has created a situation where fraternities get second pick of the litter despite individual members being "cooler" in a traditional college sense than the dudes you see on tv. In all fairness to the Frats I never heard any of them bitch directly about that situation, but insecurity about that being some sort of demarcation line might mean that those in the corps might act out as well in defense. One of the signs seriously implied this motif.

And that is enough words from me today.
