That's not an excuse. It's the law. It requires 2/3 vote from both houses to change anything to do with. That was done on purpose because of the compromise in 2000 to take it down from the state house. At the time, the anti-flag proponents considered that a huge victory. The price was putting it on the grounds and making it exceedingly difficult for it to be changed by law (although it has been needing to come down for a long time and I think it will once it goes through all the procedures.

Tell me. What is this classic song that starts at the 1:00 mark?

taking down a flag that a shitload of people find to be racist (it matters not that you and other might believe it isn't) would be the civil and compassionate thing to do.

Will TX take down all the Confederate flags it has at it's welcome centers? I would love to hear the argument about all the flags are there that used to control TX territory, as if that justifies flying it.

quote:

I thought the story I heard that some USC fans tried to blast Sandstorm out of their vehicles to overcome our yells is the most pathetic funny thing I have ever heard.

Sounds like it rustled you pretty hard for you to still be talking about it.

tl;dr summation

You are defending your state for keeping up a flag that was put up by racists pissed about the Civil Rights movement specifically as a to black people.

and yea, I get that the GA has to take a vote and its the law blah blah blah.

It's still a weak excuse to hide behind a dumb law that nobody would get arrested for breaking.

also, yea, I think Confederate flags should come down on any govt property in Texas. At the end of the day its a flag for for a bunch of people who were ultimately (like it or not) traitors to the country. That really should not be celebrated or given any sort of gov't endorsement.

It's more authentically weird. Authentic is the hipster word for good if you didn't know.

The day an Aggie tries to make a Kayne song "ours" is the day you will see Ag on Ag violence.

No Aggie says that is our song. No Aggie has Power as their ring tone because its in our entrance. Half the Aggies I know have a War Hymn ring tone.

That was a bad comparison and you know it.

Sounds like it rustled you pretty hard for you to still be talking about it.

More like I was hoping you would show up and defend your homeland.

I mean yes it does bug me that USC takes that song so seriously, but I get I can't expect everyone to treat college football tradions like they are life and death important. Mostly I just wanted to see your retort though.

Are you kidding? Heck no, you are an Aggie too. I wouldn't have bashed your state like that if I felt you were an outsider. Your opinion is just as valid as ours even though it's wrong.

On the flag thing- the Confederate flag should be anywhere that has all the six flags (like even the Spanish one). Otherwise it needs to stay in a picture in a book.

No Texan gives a crap about that flag, but many would protect the Lone Star flag before the US one.

Wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

Surely you've seen that in Texas, the two flags you see flying most often are the Texan and American flags. ANYthing else is a distant, distant 3rd.

TX doesn't have an eye-fricking boner for the rebel flag like the South.

It's been a LONG time since I've been inside one.

But now that you mention it, iirc, the welcome centers usually have the confederate national flag (not the "stars n bars" battle flag) out front.

Yup, 4th flag from the left in this photo:

That one hasn't been used as a rallying point for racism. Hell, Georgia changed their state flag to basically a facsimile of that a few years back with no real issues.

As a point for discussion: A brief history of the six flags over Texas — including the Confederate flag

From the comments section following the article:
quote:

Now, for a little thought experiment ... Do we now demand the removal of the Confederate Flag from the marble floor under the rotunda of the Texas State Capitol Building? Ever hear of the Six Flags over Texas; a simple historical fact. Where does this all end?

Thanks EKG, guess I never really put any thought into it. I say let it be an empty flagpole

IF it's the Stars and Bars AND it's alongside the other five flags as part of a purely symbolic display of TX history, then I don't really care. I wouldn't approve of flying it on its own for any reason though.

And frick the battle flag, it's beyond all redemption and belongs in museums only.

Actually if you read my post you would see that I believe it needs to come down and has needed to come down. This is the first time it has reached this level of attention nationally, but this debate has been going on in SC for a while. It has hurt our state long before the shooting in Charleston.

At the end of the day its a flag for for a bunch of people who were ultimately (like it or not) traitors to the country.

A debate for a different day I suppose, but I always find that an interesting argument considering the US were traitors to England and TX was a traitor to Mexico.

Yeah.. but.. I wasn't conforming to the circle jerk and didn't fill out my jar last night. I thought that was grounds for an immediate ban.

Despite popular belief there are, in fact, girls on A&M's campus these days.. and I guarantee you there are many who ring tone the shite out of such "music"

So THAT'S why the scale in the jar hold of tArk was coming up so light

Your quota for today has been doubled, ol' sport

If so I would have been banned back in December.

Sure, but they are doing it because they like that shitty song and not because it is our entrance. That was my point.

As I said, it is a poor comparison to some redneck 20s-something pickup truck-owning dude I know exists in the State of South Carolina that has sandstorm as his ringtone because he feels it is the song of his team. We don't claim "Power," while USC acts like they have some claim to "
Sandstorm."

Huge difference.

To me it is up there with LSU fans trying to steal Death Valley from poor Clemson because someone once called them Deaf Valley.

It gets our fans excited. It gets our fans excited notably more than other schools that play it. What's wrong with that?

Don't you dare talk to me about Clemson and stealing

The orange and purple began when Walter Merritt Riggs formed Clemson's first football team in 1896. Because Riggs had come from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (later renamed Auburn), he borrowed ideas from their team colors, orange and purple, and their mascot, the Tiger.
