I haven't seen any reference to the friendship between these guys. Willis actually followed a CA player, Tahaan Goodman, to UCLA.
I did find an article stating that his final 2 choices were between UCLA and joining John Chavis at LSU. There was also another article referencing his good relationship with Terry Joseph. It also doesn't hurt that both of A&M's starting cornerbacks graduated and that we are in the same conference (SEC) that he was considering out of HS.

This is a really interesting recruiting year.
1) Most SEC schools have already finished 50%+ of their typical recruiting classes (Bama, UGA, A&M, LSU, UT, Aub, MSU, Arky, Ole Miss, and USC). MSU and UT already have over 21 commits.
Note: Official visits won't begin until next week.
2) Traditional recruiting rivals in the Big 12 have very few commitments collectively. OU and OSU are more than 50% done, but TT leads all TX schools with 12 commits (TCU is next with 8).
Note: Tom Herman has the best recruiting class in the AAC. It has 18 commits and is ranked #30 nationally.
3) The top 3 recruiting classes in TX: 1) #9 Aggies, 2) #30 UH 3) #38 TT
Note: The 5-7 Sips are ranked #49.
4) #6 ranked OU is the only Big 12 team in the top 25 nationally.
5) 30 of Billy Liucci's top 44 TX players are committed. Only 8 are committed to A&M and the Sips (5/3). 12 are committed to OU and LSU (6/6)

I don't think there has to an explicit preexisting friendship for it to play a role. But if you think those other guys had nothing to do with it, fine. I was just offering up a possible explanation.

There could have been. I'm don't pay for premium anymore, so I only get the info by cross-referencing different info.
Kyle Allen and Kirk definitely impacted each other's recruiting from AZ.
Cunningham is a legacy.
