I think the numbers game is against him at the moment. Things could change quickly of course and he would definitely help both programs. This ones going to be interesting to watch.
Also they're looking for another power runner.

Is Joe Anderson really a DE prospect or a DT?

Bama defenders Maurice Smith, Shawn Burgess, Adonis Thomas, and Christian Bell have all left the team. Any interest in these guys from our staff?

Maurice Smith is going to Miami (if Bama doesn't get in the way)
Don't see any real connection with the other 3 to make me think A&M is in the picture

What's the deal with the Cali and Zona guys that y'all get?

We're the most western SEC team. Perks.

Spavital and Banks have performed a minor miracle selling the school to kids out west.
Don't think we've had any success in CA since LaRue in 2013. And he was out the door instantly. Betiku was close, but ultimately didn't leave the state (hopefully Gumbs isn't more of the same)
Arizona, we've been much more successful, and I think it's been a bit "success breeds success". Spav was big time during the 2014 cycle and got Kyle Allen. Qualen Cunningham was a legacy, giving us 2 top kids in '14. That helped land Kirk in '15, and all of that helped land Willis in '16.
Being in the SEC helps sell A&M, so it plays a part, but I think Spavital/Banks could have just as easily gotten those kids to Texas or OU. It's really been a lot of things coming together into one big selling point. And I think Mazzone's time out west will help continue the trend. The 2019 QB from Arizona is high on us, probably see a bunch more between now and then.

It's lazy reporting. One writer sees Kyle Allen, Christian Kirk, and Q. Cunningham and then declares that is our recruiting "hot bed".
A&M is really starting to attract players from border states (LA, AR and OK). Coaches have tried to increase recruiting in traditional SEC territory (AR, LA, MS, and TN).
Looks like we hosted and offered 2 TN prospects this weekend. A 4* OT and a 2018 4*DT. Clay Travis mentioned on his podcast that Memphis, TN is becoming a "hotbed" for recruiting.

Willis transferred in 2015 and was ineligible that season as a result. He's starting THIS season.

You're correct. But I think my overall point still stands, that having Allen, Kirk and Cunningham on campus helped land Willis.

We wanted Willis bad back in the day. Interested to see how he does...
