On Bj Emmons
quote:

Emmons, a four-star prospect who’s ranked the nation’s No. 6 running back in the 247Sports Composite, has been committed to Georgia since Dec. 1. But he’s still keeping his options open, and his visit to Tennessee on Saturday for its junior day confirmed that the Vols remain legitimate contenders for him. Tennessee once was the team to beat for Emmons after extending an early offer to him in August, and the Vols currently are the greatest threat to steal him away from the Bulldogs.

I'm a big fan of Emmons. I would love a RB haul of him and Holyfield.

Didn't he get arrested last year and drugs were involved?

Yep. I believe it was for drugs. He tried to commit to UGA but he's in a holding pattern right now until he straightens some things out.

Deangelo Gibbs:
quote:

“The fans are crazy, man. I really liked that,” said Gibbs, who plays both wide receiver and cornerback. “They’re behind their team 100 percent. It was a close game, so the fans were into it. The coaches were into it. You can tell everybody is there for the game — not just because it’s Tennessee, but they’re there for the game. And they love their players.”

“I was just texting my Uncle Dale (during the visit),” Gibbs said. “I sent him some pictures. He’s, like, one of the top safeties to ever come through (Tennessee) or whatever, and I sent him a picture. He was like, ‘Yeah, I saw that, when they put that up there of me.’ So next time I’ll come up here with him and my cousin, Nigel.”

Jimmie Taylor:
quote:

"It went well," Taylor said. "I learned that Tennessee is a family school. Tennessee has a lot of tradition. I hung out with coach Thigpen and coach Strip and we really got to talk." "They know what they want and they know what they are doing," Taylor said. "I think I could learn a lot from both of them. They have coached some great players and they seem to get the best out of their guys."

"I think my biggest strength is my pass rush," Taylor said. "My speed off the edge is something that gives me an edge. I'm always grinding and working on my game to get better. My main focus this offseason is getting bigger, faster and stronger."

"My freshman year we won state and then my sophomore year we lost in the state championship game," Taylor said. "Last year we lost in the Eastern Finals. I think we can pull together and get back there this year."

"Of course I want to play early," Taylor said. "I know I will have to work for it, but having the chance to earn playing time is important. I also want a place that feels like home. Somewhere if I'm feeling down then I can talk to a player or coach and get back on track."

Cecil Stallings:
quote:

"Everything was great to me," Stallings said. "The locker room, the coaching staff, it seemed like they are really trying to build the program." "It seemed like a family environment. They are trying to build it based all around family," Stallings said. "The concentrate on the players having a life after football."

"We just talked about the things I need to do with the (NCAA) clearinghouse and making sure my grades are good and take my tests," Stallings explained. "They want me to keep coming around and keep getting to know them."

Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida State and Texas A&M are five programs Stallings said are sticking out to him right now, but with over a dozen offers and more likely to come he has no certain timeframe.

"I liked it all. They build players that can go to the NFL and that's my main thing. That, and academics," Stallings said. "I want a place that can prepare me for the NFL, but also has good academics. I also want to be comfortable with where I'm at. I really like the environment at Tennessee," he said.

Breon Dixon
quote:

Dixon stopped short of calling Tennessee his early leader, but he made it clear that the Vols are standing out to him.

“They’re up there. I like them a lot,” said Dixon, who’s expected to be one of the top prospects from the state of Georgia in the 2017 class. “They’re in the SEC. They’re a good school, good education school, and it’s not too far from home, so I like it.

“They’re at the top. … I’ve got a pretty good group (of early contenders), but they’re at the top of it.”

He said Tennessee made a good first impression on him during his visit for its home finale last season.

“It was crazy, loud. The fans were going crazy. It was a good game,” Dixon said, referring to the Vols’ 29-21 loss to Missouri. “They ended up losing, but it was a good game.”

Top247 junior cornerback Chad Clay of Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Ga., was among the more than 20 Tennessee targets who attended the Vols’ junior day last weekend, and he said after the visit that UT is one of four teams standing out most to him, along with Georgia, Florida and Ohio State.

He then told 247Sports’ Luke Stampini on Monday night that “it’s pretty much a tie between Florida and Georgia at the top right now.”

Still, the Vols appear to be legitimate contenders for the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Clay. He already has visited Tennessee three times, including his two trips to Knoxville last season to attend the Vols’ home games against Alabama and Missouri.

four-star junior defensive end chidi okonya of riverdale (ga.) high school also was impressed by tennessee last weekend during his first visit with the vols, and he said they’re one of several teams standing out to him, along with stanford, miami and ole miss, among others.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound okonya said the visit impressed him enough to make him want to return to knoxville at some point with his parents.

Okonya, who also attended a junior day at stanford on feb. 28, claims offers from more than two dozen teams, including duke, georgia, lsu, miami, ole miss, stanford, clemson, florida, notre dame and penn state.

He’s ranked the nation’s no. 328 overall prospect and no. 22 strongside defensive end in the 247sports composite.

On JoeJuan Williams
quote:

Scouting report: Williams is a long, physical defensive back who looks like he could play either safety or cornerback at the next level. There are few players his size that can turn and run like he does, making him a rare prospect.

Latest: Williams recently visited Vanderbilt and Auburn and is high on Tennessee and Ohio State.

Leaders: Auburn, Ohio State, Tennessee.

Way-too-early prediction: Tennessee

On Marquill Osbourne
quote:

Scouting report: Osborne has that "it" factor. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time and has a knack for making big plays. Osborne has great size and length at the cornerback position and his reaction speed is top-notch. His ability to be physical with any receiver, big or small, and make aggressive tackles makes receivers want to shy away from him.

Latest: There was not much intrigue involved in Osborne's recruitment. Tennessee was the leader from day one and Osborne was not hesitant about committing. There have been rumors of visits to other schools, but they always seem to fade away. That could be something to keep an eye on if Tennessee's season goes south.

Leaders: Osborne is committed to Tennessee.

On Guarantano
quote:

Scouting report: Last season, Guarantano did not get much help from his teammates, but he was still able to show off his impressive skill set. He is very mobile and has very good straight-line speed. When he's able to stand tall in the pocket, he is very accurate, reads defenses well and when the pocket breaks down, he knows how to escape trouble.

Latest: For a long time, it looked like Ohio State had all of the momentum, and then the momentum switched to Rutgers and then most recently Tennessee. Guarantano will be in Knoxville early next week for a couple days and it would not be surprising if he committed. Ohio State is pushing to get him on campus one more time, but if it is not scheduled before he gets to Knoxville, it could spell trouble for the Buckeyes.

Leaders: Tennessee, Ohio State, Rutgers

Way-too-early prediction: Tennessee

Scouting report: Hardman is one of the most explosive players in the country and has the talent to be an elite slot receiver or a lockdown cornerback.

Latest: Hardman has visited both Tennessee and Georgia over the past month and the two SEC schools appear to be at the teams to beat.

Leaders: Tennessee was Hardman's leader for months, but now he claims the Vols and Georgia are "co-leaders."

Way-too-early prediction: Tennessee
