I'm 25 and a UT alum. This is my generation and I hate everything about it. I've written state reps about it but what exactly do you mean by fighting it?

Tell me about it man, it's my generation too and it makes me ill bc I'm beginning to notice that amongst my generation even in the South, these people may even be the majority amongst my friends. It's 50/50 at best. Common sense is going extinct

In all seriousness who the f*ck cares? It's a fricking memo from a division of campus that's specifically geared towards inclusion and diversity. The state legislatures need to get their heads out of their arses and quit nitpicking the university. First Sex Week and student programming with that dipshite Stacy Campfield and now this. It's not like we're slowly selling this university piece by piece to Aramark... Oh wait...

I really wouldn't care except it's been proven in this kinda shite if you give an inch they'll take a mile, they've done it over and over again

If this is ignored, how long until they demand a professor gets fired for mentioning Jesus at a Christmas party? Or Rudolph forbid Santa gets mentioned, MY GOD....the horror....

Plus as I said regarding UT's specific situation, I'll take any reason to ditch Cheek

Yep, I agree, it's everywhere and has been going on for quite a while now and has progressively gotten worse. I don't mean to be a lightning rod here, but today's liberalism/humanist is an insidious disease

I could just as easily plug in conservative/religious right and come to the same conclusion. Polemic oration from both sides gets everybody nowhere. FWIW, I believe that religion is an insidious disease for some people. But - if people want to have christmas parties, big fricking deal. Let the people party and call it what they want.

I'll say it again, who gives a flying f*ck. This office has ZERO pull on campus. They create these types of memos and send them to the offices around campus as reminders/suggestions. There's zero weight with them.

And that scenario is idiotic. No one is getting fired for mentioning shite like that. People are up in arms about all this PC BS and are jumping on anything and everything that could even be remotely associated with it.

I'm not a fan of Cheek but this is BS. Like I said, wheres the outrage over how this University is mismanaging funds and indebting itself to Aramark? Does anyone care or because it's not a minor blip on the radar but an actual issue it's not fun to nitpick about?

Idiotic? There's a university (forgive me I can't remember where but Google will turn it up, possibly in Canada) where a YOGA CLASS has been cancelled bc it's been deemed offensive somehow. The teacher went to fight for it and they are now facing pressure to fire her. Look at everything that has gone on at Mizzou and at Yale, you really think it's that farfetched? Ignore it for another 10-15 years and see what happens

But I do agree, the University does have a host of other problems that should be addressed with equal if not more priority but you know how politics go...

I copied/pasted the following from a friend of mines Facebook page. Basically, its not just this office. Apparently, professors routinely make remarks slamming anything Christian to the point of talking about physical violence but no one takes it seriously.
If you say Merry Christmas you get fired.
There's more to this on my friends Facebook page but you get the idea.
I'd really just like to see some common sense return to Universities in general. Instead of trying to consolidate group think and push an agenda how about we look at all aspects of something without one side pushing another aside. Let these young adults make their own conclusions.

Anyways, here's a snippet from his page...

I'll call you when I go buddy! I'm just about done with this. If she stood up and said she wanted to punch all Muslims in the face she and me both would be in jail. However, she has been there 18 years , him 1 , and he can say that stuff and get away with it. This happened the day after DT was here. She reported it as she should. She has been shamed discriminated against made fun of and now threatened simply because she accepts Christ as Her Savor. UT is ok with their professors punching us all on the face. ( that is not all he said, my wife is too nice . I am not. !! He ranted that Christians are weak , Christians are ignorant , all while your tax dollar paid him)
Again, they know this. But if my wife (who is 4 years from retiring says Merry Christmas UT can fire her.
