Legislators call for UT Chancellor's resignation over holiday party rules

The advisory, posted on the website of the university’s Office for Diversity and Inclusion, also warns that holiday parties should have “no emphasis on religion or culture” and that there should be no games “with religious or cultural themes,” such as Secret Santa.
And now Senate Education Committee Chairman Dolores Gresham, R-Somerville, and Senate Government Operations Committee Chairman Mike Bell, R-Riceville, are calling for the resignation of University of Tennessee at Knoxville (UTK) Chancellor Jimmy Cheek. The lawmakers made the call after learning about UTK’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s new guidance to staff on holiday parties, saying they have no confidence in his ability to lead the state’s flagship university.
“The Office of Diversity is not welcoming to all and hostile to none as they claim,” said Sen. Gresham. “They are very hostile to students and other Tennesseans with Christian and conservative values. By placing a virtual religious test regarding holiday events at this campus, every student who is a Christian is penalized.”

Is this serious? What the frick is the point of having a holiday and subsequent celebrations of it? I am not a religious person, but this shite is freedom from religion, not freedom of religion.
All these frickheads in the diversity office need to go start a school somewhere else where everyone can go feel comfortable. We live in a society where you have to conform in some sense or you will be ostracized. I am sorry that some of these kids are awkward and have a hard time, but maybe college isn't for them?
I am all for being reasonable, but come the frick on. This is the second time this garbage has happened in one semester.
And Jimmy Duncan is one goofy looking bastard.

^^Holidays cuz there's lots of other holidays going on and around the non-Greek Orthodox/Orthodox December holiday of Christmas. It's not that hard. Duncan is just trying make himself look like he's 'fighting against the war on Christmas.'

Yeah - I think all religions are such a thing of the past but this is just stupid. If people want to call it a christmas party, big fricking deal. No harm, no foul.

I dont disagree that Duncan is pandering to the reds here. However, he is not wrong that there is a lot of wasted money effort going on with this office of diversity. I also though the female legislator in the article had a good point about sex week, seems a little much to expose 18-22 year olds to imo.

Idk much about what goes on at "sex week" but I can gaurantee they don't show the 18-22 yos anything they don't already know about

Ha, I know that. But it doesn't need to be condoned and aided by the university. A drag show and lecture by a BDSM expert seems a little ridiculous on a college campus. There are plenty of places around town that people can seek that out if that's what theyre in to.

Tbh, I really don't either. Just going off what I read. Obviously no one was forced to participate in this, just think it isn't right for a publicly funded university. Some of this stuff feels really forced, especially considering where we are.
That said, I don't think this is grounds to fire Cheek or anyone else, just maybe rein some of this shite in. It's funny me typing this because I would probably be considered very liberal to most people around here...I just think a little bit of common sense needs to be considered.

Yep, I agree, it's everywhere and has been going on for quite a while now and has progressively gotten worse. I don't mean to be a lightning rod here, but today's liberalism/humanist is an insidious disease.
