What does the SEC think of Ed Orgeron as a recruiter?

In all honesty, are other SEC teams actually worried about Ed O at least more then Les? In a recruiting sense that is.

he is a good recruiter, he has been known for that for a while. But HC recruiting is different than assistants, so yet to see how he proceeds

From a recruiting standpoint, Les was good....but it really does sound like Ed O is better.

My buddy is a high school coach in Louisiana and he flat out told me he is the best recruiter he has ever met. I know this could be biased and trigger people, but he went on to say he was better than Saban. Although Saban clearly has the hardware to back it up, that gives him the overall edge, but if Ed can get LSU back to where it was 10 years ago, then it could get interesting.

Pretty much this. I don't think overall talent has been a problem at LSU... I think in the last 10 years the only non-top 10 Class for LSU was maybe in 2012? Usually good for somewhere between 1-4th in the conference as well. Actual coaching/game plan/in-game decision making has been a much bigger issue and then talent at the QB position has been sorely lacking for what feels like some time now.

UGA has been in a similar situation (but with slightly worse overall recruiting ratings prior to Smart), where since AM left, we had a relative vacuum at the QB position, and since AJ Green left, we've been piecemeal at best at WR. Malcolm Mitchell was good but had a rocky career at UGA due to injuries. Our top WR last year was 5'7"... How is it that UGA's WR recruiting has been so poor over the years even with nearly 6 years of consistently pretty good to great QB play from Matt Stafford and Aaron Murray (let's discount Stafford's freshman year... not great). And if I just evaluate Richt's entire time there, we had at least good QB play for probably 11/15 seasons with David Green & Shockley contributing to 5 good years. And in the entirety of Richt's latter half at UGA, we couldn't seem to recruit the offensive line worth a damn (not sure if effort or something else). Things that make you scratch your head when you look back at it sometimes...

LSU seems to have had a relative surplus of talent at the Defensive front and maybe to a slightly lesser degree at OL as well. WR/CB/RB haven't been a real problem, so it seems that the crux of the matter will come down to securing top flight QB talent (consistently). I don't know whether Ed O is going to have a meaningful impact there as an individual, but if he has put together a staff that can make a compelling pitch and identify the right guy, then things could be looking up.

Has that coach tried to ban Saban from the campus yet?

I think if EO is going after lineman then everyone should look at them. Overall I think he is a very good recruiter and seems to have surrounded himself with other good recruiters. I don't think recruiting has been the problem.

the friend of a rabid LSU fan, who is a HS coach (likely an LSU fan himself), and works/lives in LA (surrounded by other LSU fans), thinks Ed O (he sounds like us!) is a better recruiter than the guy who has lapped the rest of CFB for the past 10 years? Well, I'm shocked.

Les recruited at an extremely high level. Recruiting was never the problem under Les and it won't be under Orgeron either

Hah... hadn't seen that in a while. Things that stuck out... Hugh Freeze was in there at like the 9 second mark I think. Also, Lou Holtz is pretty entertaining if you can get past his speech impediment. Coaches all love Sandra Bullock... especially Phil who got all tongue tied just trying to say her name.

Sorry that you gumps can't look at this without butthurt. I never said better overall coach. I said recruiter. Many national pundits will agree, too. He's arguably the best recruiter in the country. That doesn't mean he will be a great head coach. It's sad I have to decipher this for you so you don't feel slighted.

He was excellent in the Blind Side selling SJ on letting him lead the team out onto the field.
