Sorry that you gumps can't look at this without butthurt. I never said better overall coach. I said recruiter. Many national pundits will agree, too. He's arguably the best recruiter in the country. That doesn't mean he will be a great head coach. It's sad I have to decipher this for you so you don't feel slighted.

Not butthurt about anything. I knew your original point wasn't that O was a better overall coach, but that he's a better recruiter.

I'm sorry that "Gumps" can't disagree with your opinion without you getting butthurt. I'm simply of the opinion that Ed O isn't a better recruiter or HC than Saban. That's my opinion based on a set of available data points. You're entitled to your opinion that Ed O is a better recruiter

the friend of a rabid LSU fan, who is a HS coach (likely an LSU fan himself), and works/lives in LA (surrounded by other LSU fans), thinks Ed O (he sounds like us!) is a better recruiter than the guy who has lapped the rest of CFB for the past 10 years? Well, I'm shocked.

this isn't just a simple disagreement. You're a patronizing fricker. Keep it up.

Heaven forbid anything indicate that Alabama isn't the absolute best in literally everyone's opinion in any and every category.

Except this isn't an opinion topic.

It's quantifiable by class rankings and on the field results.

ETA: And I don't have a problem with the guy saying that, but odds are he did have a little extra motivation in saying it.

it's really a shame

I like bamasgot13, and he generally is pretty easy to deal with. But all bama fans are capable of having too much bama in them from time to time.

it is not quantifiable, because Saban nor O recruit each player individually. Not to mention both are in far different circumstances.

I think what the HS coach probably meant is that O is a better salesman. He knows how to connect with the kids better than most. Saban goes about it much differently I assume. It obviously works, though.

The comment was most definitely an opinion. It's one coach's thought (passed on second hand) that he liked O's approach more than any other coach he'd been around. It doesn't make him right or wrong, simply his opinion... I don't think anyone is saying that O has outrecruited Bama, and if they are, I'm squarely in the opposite corner, since as you said the results don't bear that out... But the commentary in this thread has been of the "triggered" variety. (at least bg13 and BPM)

And you know I say this coming from a place of relative neutrality...

Damn bro. Having a bad day?

The guy shares the opinion of his FRIEND as if it should carry some weight here. It might with some. It doesn't with others (same with all of our opinions).

It's cool to have a difference of opinion, to debate those opinions, and NOT be anything more than that.

Not having a bad day.

You claim to have a different opinion. I'm saying you were being a patronizing fricker.

He told a story about what a coach said, and then you went down a path that was borderline insulting. Coaches don't think O is a great recruiter because of how he talks. It's because he's a great recruiter and connects with recruits.

He didn't go to LSU. He's somewhat of a fan, though. Glad you base your argument on an assumption. There are people that realize Saban is the best coach. He knows it, I know it, LSU fans know it. He truly thinks Ed O is the best recruiter he's ever met. It was an opinion of his that was stated on his experiences with both coaches purely from a recruiting perspective. Take it as you will.

ETA: In response to other poster.

He recruits the recruits, his parents, best friends, friends friends, coaches, etc. He also has a great memory and knows everyone's names. He's a lot smarter than the national perception gives him because people only hear him "talk like a Cajun."

He's a good but overrated recruiter.

Oh look, my stalker. Good to see you continuing to stalk my posts. As I respond to this I just LOL at you and that I have become so important to you that you would see my name and respond immediately. I have asked you multiple times to just move on or just don't respond but you seem to be addicted to me. Glad I could make your day today.

It's odd how a LSU fan keeps supposedly stalking a Bama in threads about LSU. Seems more like a particularly absurd method of whining.

Seems to me everyone in the SEC was invited to participate in this thread, Bama fans included.
