What's his recruiting pitch?
One of the premier programs in the Northeast.

And any school crooting against him can say and look at what he did when he left Vandy. classy guy
It's not his fault the players liked him and not Vandy. What was he going to do? Tell them no. They ended up fine.

Probably THE premier team in the NE.

See Hoke, Brady.
Its one thing to recruit well.
that being said, I think he'll be in a great position eventually, but PSU still has a few more years to work out from under their sanctions

Now I know how people felt about Freeze last year. I'm thinking to myself, how the heck is he doing this? I knew he was a great recruiter/coach, but wow.

I'm not surprised at all by this, I think he'll do big things in Happy Valley. He's the guy I wanted at SC

I know, but if they could churn out 9 wins a year, be top 20ish, it would really help out
And my question for the SEC peeps around is do you think PSU is a top 15 job? Is it a destination job where someone will stay for 40 years, or are there enough jobs ahead of it that guys will use it as a spring board (obviously BoB did this but he was an NFL guy)

It is a top 15 job easily and a destination job.
The reason is because they have a huge built-in recruiting territory. Not only do they get all the PA guys they want (which is a lot), but since Rutgers and Maryland are crap (and now in the B1G) they get all the MD/NY/NJ guys they want too. Look at this class he is putting together and you will see that.
Few teams have a built-in base like that, and it easily makes them top 15. The only way that will change is if Pittsburg finds a way to become nationally relevant again.
In fact these same reasons are why Nebraska is not a top 15 program and might never be again.

I still think Texas made a massive mistake in not hiring this guy,

Everyone knew PSU was getting a guy who could recruit. He never wowed me on gamedays.
Dude brought first 9 win season at Vandy since 1915. And 9 win in 2012 wasn't a fluke. He had another 9 wins season in 2013. And it was the first time Vandy beat Florida, UGA, Tennessee in the same season.
And in his 3 seasons at Vandy, he doubled Vandy's all time bowl appearances and bowl wins.

So happy Texas didn't have a clue about Franklin.
Would've been a nightmare.

The only destination jobs that exist anymore combine fertile, in-state recruiting grounds, a tradition of winning, and a metric frickton of money. Basically:
Alabama
Florida
Florida State
Georgia
LSU
Ohio State
Texas
USC

Strong has as good, or maybe even better, resume coming into his major job as Sumlin did two years ago.

Penn State has all three.

I'm confused. Which of these doesn't Penn State have?

The SECe was admittedly down no? I mean maybe 1-2 good teams, but Tenn. has been at it's worst in a long time, UF was god awful last year, and even UGA had some problems.
I think there is some stat that he only has wins over 3 FBS programs in his time at Vandy that finished with a winning record that year. Don't quote me on that, but saw it somewhere.

Keep in mind this is Vandy and they went 2-10 right before Franklin took over. Franklin held an open tryout for nerd white Vandy students:
