Of course LSU has their selling points which is why he's considering yall.

quote:

Catalyst of elite-great players in Simmons, blankey, Patterson, Hornsby and quarterman
Using elite-great players for people such as Hornsby and Patterson is hilarious. There are plenty of teams they wouldn't even play on.

quote:

Tons and tons and tons of national spotlight
While I agree he would get more exposure than at MSU, "tons and tons and tons" is a bit of a stretch. OJ Mayo didn't hurt his draft stock by going to USC, nor did Harden by going to ASU. If you can play, you can play, and NBA scouts will see you.

quote:

ability to play as he chooses in jonny's player friendly system
You don't think he will be able to play as he chooses for MSU? He will be far and away the most talented player on our roster and will probably get as many shots as he would like.

-play for a great coach who has put a long list of players in the NBA including the current scoring champion who plays very similar to Malik.
-the spot light all to himself
-stay in-state close to home
-play where his dad played
-play where he grew up going to games and who he was a fan of growing up.

LSU can't offer anything on that list.

I didn't base my opinion off of him after a few all star games. In fact I stated it isn't the best gauge given the egos you see. You're not very good at reading are you?
Then why even mention that he isn't playing like the number 4 player in the country? Obviously every player has a bad game. His just so happened to be during the most watched high school game of the year.

quote:

Yes LSU doesn't have a true PG at the moment. But Malik is more of a combo guard than anything.
But Malik would give you a much better option to run point. You wouldn't trust Gray, Hornsby, or Patterson at point guard over him. Which is why saying Malik would just be another drop in the bucket is retarded; this was my original argument.

On any given day our guards are more than capable of scoring 25+ in a game. It's proven Time and again all season. It's getting them to quit the quick and unnessary 3's and TO that will drive you insane.

Well you see there is a HUGE HUGE difference here. USC is little brother to UCLA a major basketball power and USC in their own right were constantly in the spotlight in other sports. Same for ASU. MSU is rarely ever in the spotlight for any sport.

You say I don't know basketball, yet you're clearly not aware of your coach's philosophy. He demands discipline, tough defense, his way or the highway, and is a complete arse in his approach. Countless UCLA players have stated as much. It got him 2nd place twice and then fired.

Not similar at all to Westbrook. More like Collison if you had to pick a former UCLA guard in the holland era.

the spot light all to himself

What spotlight? Nearly Zero exposure due to TV markets
-

stay in-state close to home

His mother is in LA
-

play where his dad played

He accomplished so much too right?
-

play where he grew up going to games and who he was a fan of growing up.

this is a horrible argument. Do you know how many players choose schools other than their childhood favorite despite having an offer? Tons. I couldn't count the number of guys that say "LSU was my favorite or dream school growing up" that don't land at LSU. The difference is you NEVER hear a player of any sport say that about State.

I'm talking about our recruiting class. We already have the #1 player in the country and another 5-star. Malik Newman doesn't make or break our class like it does yours. If you get him, it gives you hope, if you don't you'll suck badly again next year. If we get him, he's literally just a droip in the big bucket of talented we're bringing in and what we have returning. Our recruiting class is already amazing, and on top of that, we return a highly experienced NCAAT team.

You've managed to get two very good players to sign on with yall

For just this recruiting class, we still have signed even more top players under Johnny Jones.

Malik would start at PG over these guys but im not convinced he would be a better PG itself. He's certainly a better scorer but Quarterman and especially Patterson IMO are solid guys running the point. Gray turns it over too much and Hornsby isn't a PG at all (but a very good SG). Malik is brand new to this PG stuff and it shows.

You are right, Webster sucked. Not like he was an all-American or anything. Had a white career.

I don't understand why LSU fans act like MSU basketball was never any good. Then act like LSU is Kentucky or something. We are talking about BBall not FBall a sport where while y'all's history is the modern era is better(thanks Shaq) our histories over the last 25 years are comparable.

Why do you keep repeating this. Us stating LSU has more talent and is bringing in more talent than MSU is not us "acting like we're UK". Maybe is just means MSU isn't exactly a hot spot?

Sorry, but he is. Our season isn't a dependent on him. Nor has he performed like the #4 player as of late. Granted it's not the best catalyst with everyone wanting to "be the guy" including Newman himself.

Simmons appears to be the least shelfish in the entire recruiting class, yet is the most NBA ready prospect of the entire recruiting. You have sword. A guard that won't even be playing overseas he's so meh.

LSU can offer
#1 player as teammate
Starting time
ability to play as he chooses in jonny's player friendly system
Catalyst of elite-great players in Simmons, blankey, Patterson, Hornsby and quarterman(triple double last year, and one of only 3 players in LSU history to do so.)
Tons and tons and tons of national spotlight

State can't offer anything on that list other than starting time.

With Kasongo and Malik, State can offer a sweep of LSU next year.

Your right actually. It is really just Memphis who is acting like that.

Not as of today.

Anyway, sounds like Newman is heading to Mississippi State...Zimmerman is heading to UNLV.

It is now being reported that Cal is getting a 5th year transfer from Charlotte (Thone) and may swing Ingram out of North Carolina.

And still miss the NCAAt by a decent bit, meanwhile LSU will be in it once again. wouldn't bother me one bit.

LOL, if you think Simmons is going to get LSU a deep run...Newman and possible another player can get MSU in the dance.

LOL, they weren't even remotely close to the NCAAt this year, Newman alone will not get them there. Kasongo is not some top notch recruit either he's a very poor man's Jordan Mickey.

Simmons is the composite #1 recruit and #1 on 3 of the 4 major sites, sorry to break it to you.

Yes, because saying I could care less means I would be oh so mad like every state fan in this thread if Malik doesn't go to MSU. Once again, LSU can fall back on numerous talent and experience, MSU has...Sword and that's it.
