5 straight winning seasons and bowls at Mississippi State is pretty consistent considering our programs history.

7-6 and 8-5 might be "winning SEASONS" but isn't really defined as "winning consistently".

This season could tell us a lot about how far along Mullen has come along losing as much as he did. Most people seem to expect State to be a 7-5/8-4 type team this year.

Really like this kid as an athlete. Could end up being a good safety in college. Good pick up. Don't know much about the other kid, but DBs grow on trees at his HS.

Lsu goes 8-5 and we are called the worst team in the sec. You guys call 8-5 a good season. Hmmmmm

Dude, it's rough in tLandmass, picture cutting Louisiana's population by a million, and add another school of equal size. You'd probably be happy with 8-5 too.

Mullen's recruiting philosophy looked to be working last year. LSU's 5 stars gave up over 300 yards rushing and nearly 300 passing.

It only took 14 years.

I think there is a lot of gray area here. I don't think coaches don't expect a player to to be a good or even great player because of a low star ranking. I have never heard any coach I know refer to a star ranking when referring to a kids performance. They also don't expect a 5 star at a place like LSU to walk in and be great without working hard. Kids develop at a different rate sometimes and there are intangible factors. The list of 3 star or even walk ins becoming stars in college is long. as plenty have stated on here, a large % of NFL players were 3 stars. You bring them in and hold them all to the flame and then u find out what they are really made of. Coaches don't give a damn about a star ranking. Roster spots are precious.

Mullen is a good coach and getting the most out of his guys but when u have special kid like Dak you win a few more games and can do some special things. Do you really think that th expectation will now be to roll into tiger stadium every other year and run for 300? Or even at home? I hope so.

Lsu would have never had the same success given State and OM's situation. Hell, yall aren't even on Bama's level, even though you're the only major non-directional school in your state.

Not many are on Bamas level. Actually, none are. No one has had that type of success. But you know damn good and well you'd be ecstatic with LSUs football accomplishments. But keep on keeping on enjoying your 8 win seasons and your "diamond in the rough" recruits..

This is the problem with the monster expectations created by SEC teams. 8-5 is a good season, but now some SEC teams have had so much success that they consider it a disappointment. But none of us should expect such high expectations regularly and those that do will find themselves disappointed a lot.

LSU has won 2 national titles in the past 12 years and played for another. LSU's last national title before those came in 1958, though. Just like all the teams that have had good runs (e.g. Miami, FSU, Nebraska, etc), it will eventually end for LSU, also.
