Can Bama fans summarize the events surrounding Bama and Keil?

How y'all landed him in the first place? What caused him to decommit? Thoughts on his abilities? Etc.
Seems as if LSU has a semi-legit shot at landing him and haven't followed his recruitment until now.

He never commited to us.It was down to Indiana and us.After he chose Indiana we moved on.He re-opened his recruitment but wanted us to take only one(him)qb.We a ready had Alec Morris and would not go for that,so the two split ways

Why would he tell a school only to take him? He is the top QB this year.

He's scared of competition, which is why I'm kinda glad he didn't pick Bama.

I don't think he's scared of competition, not at all. Alec Morris is nothing to be afraid of. I watched him play a few games at Allen this year, and I was kind of surprised he had a Bama offer.

yeah i dont really think morris is that good either. but alot of people say he is really good. who knows

Players don't make demands like he did if he isn't. He didn't want Bama to take Lambert or Gardner if he went there, despite them being "lesser talents".
And I've watched several Allen games also(including his brilliant last minute drive to beat Marcus), he has the tools to be a successful QB. He needs to be coached, he's got good size, arm strength, and enough fleetness of foot to be a starter down the line. He needs to learn how hold onto the ball and better footwork, he's throwing off his back foot a lot.

I agree on Morris. Do you really blame Kiel though? I wouldn't want a team to bring in more than 1 QB either if I was being recruited.

Oh I understand and I'd probably do the same in his shoes, but it still shows some insecurity. He's doing it for his future, but I can't say I respect him over someone who doesn't care if he has to compete with another QB...

Insecure? That makes no sense relative to this discussion. Morris is no different than many of the QBs that Alabama has had success with in the past.

Keyword there... Just because it worked before doesnt necessarily mean it will work again.

He's no less likely to succeed than any other QB of his stature. Recruiting has never been a science.

He all but committed to McElwain (twice), but never told the staff he was firm. Said vague things like "I plan to be here in January", "I'm looking forward to being a part of this". Things like that. When they pushed him on if that means he's committed he always followed up with questions about other QBs they were recruiting. He was told Bama planned to take 2 QBs. Never liked that.
The statements he made to the staff caused them to cool on Winston for about 6 weeks and really hurt for a while. Now the staff has Winston all but flipped back. He was actually helping recruit while in town this past weekend. Winston will be part of Bama's class, but so will Morris as insurance for MLB (which is looking like less of a problem based on the new CBA).
I expect Winston to start at Bama in 2014 and for Morris to be a backup unless something changes.
