Now take a look at all of the elite talent UT landed in '14 and '15:
I just looked at the 15 class and you guys only landed 4 of the 12 4*s in the state. I wouldn't consider that a fence.
The 14 class you did a lot better with locking down 9 of the top 11. Now that's locking down the border.

Yeah, you really can't look at the numbers and get a true grasp of the situation. Look at those top players then look where UT went out of state and got players that were ranked higher. We really had to lean on in state kids the previous year. 2015 we had the luxury going a little more out of state.
I'd say the only real instate miss for 2015 was Rico McGraw

Come on now. You know good and well that if we were talking about UGA pretty much everyone on here would be screaming about raiding our state and how we can't lock down our borders. You can't have it both ways.

The "misses" in 2014 were
Jefferson-Would have been nice but we only took 1 WR and it was Preston Williams who was ranked higher by every service.
Josh Smith-Brother at Vandy. I think he is a very good prospect although we did sign a very similarly rated player in Darrin Kirkland Jr. at the position.
Rico McGraw-Miss.
Jackson Harris-Did not offer or even recruit him.
Joshua McMillon-This is an interesting one. Never really heard him mention Tennessee much and we did sign a higher rated OLB in Quart'e Sapp, but I do not have a lot of insight on this recruitment.
Donovan Sheffield-Did not offer or recruit.
Ke'Shawn Vaugh-Did not offer or recruit.
I think McGraw and Smith are the only two I would really like to have that we didn't sign.

This one puzzles me. The kid looks like he's going to be pretty good and I saw that you guys liked a lower ranked kid instead. Any insight on why?

Jefferson was wanted and really liked UT, but was put off by the depth chart from all accounts and really enjoyed Oxford as well.
Preston Williams
Josh Malone
Pig Howard
Marquez North
Von Pearson
Jason Croom
Josh Smith
J. Johnson
It's tough to recruit talented guys that want to start from day 1 with that WR corp.
Van has no chance at starting on Day 1 in Oxford either, FWIW. We are also quite deep at receiver.

How can any Vol fan be happy about Chavis recruiting a line backer that your staff didn't offer? I would go with Chavis on this one

Who's to say we won't offer? It's June. Have you ever followed recruiting before?

Is this real life? Scheme, position, fit, intangibles, etc, etc. -- there are multiple reasons as to why one staff would offer and another wouldn't. Not to mention that UT leads for the #1 player in the state, LB Daniel Bituli, whose more highly rated and thought to be a better fit for what we're trying to run.
LB Corp since Butch arrived: 247 Composite score
-Jalen Reeves Maybin 4* OLB - 2013 class
-Dillon Bates 4* OLB - 2014 class
-Cortez McDowell 4* OLB - 2014 class
-Gavin Bryant 4* MLB - 2014 class
-Chris Weatherd 4* OLB - 2014 class
-Jakob Johnson 3* MLB - 2014 class
-Elliot Berry 3* OLB- 2014 class
-Darrin Kirkland 4* MLB - 2015 class
-Quarte Sapp 4* OLB - 2015 class
-Austin Smith 3* OLB/MLB - 2015 class
Butch has been killing it at the LB spot. That's how.

Jones is too short: he can't see over the fence at all the others coming to steal his recruits....

Depth chart had nothing to do with Van not going to UT.

Nothing to do with it? Welp, you can't be taken seriously anymore.

Yeah, and it didn't have anything to do with the #1 WR in GA signing with us either...right?

Just because he's a linebacker from TN doesn't make him Hightower 2. He's a good player but UT obviously has other options in mind.

You're really reaching.
Every coach has a long running list of busts. Its recruiting, its an inexact science.
