Guess when it looked like he was headed to LSU Gus had to do what he could to get him.

No guessing about it. He told LSU coaches he was all LSU and was going to sign. Then this happened at the last minute. Auburn was more shocked they LSU was when his LOI came in.

So, it has created this whole new flow for the job market wherein it directly benefits HS coaches to shop their guys to the schools that will play that game. And given that it is morally questionable but not breaking any rules, a lot of schools do it.

I don't have an issue with anyone doing it since right now it isn't against the rules. It also allows competent high school coaches a shorter path to the college ranks which I think makes our sport better.

And how did LSU manage to come in 2 weeks ago and magically have this kid convinced? Auburn knew exactly where he was going Tuesday night, just like UGA and LSU.

Same way we convinced guys like Phillips, Taylor and Chaisson.

We were losing 3 LBs off our 3-4 defense, and had just 1 committed, our depth also was very bad. Chaisson/Bryant got sold on being the next Arden Key, since he wont be here after next year.

Gus hired by Arky the year the Springdale kids all went to Arky. Felton hired by AU the year Bryant goes to AU.

Nutt still regrets that decision

I'm not mad, it's just a reality. Guy was a HEAVY uga lean for MONTHS, then a strong LSU lean, then a week before signing day goes on a hunting trip at the ranch and his coach gets a job and he's all AU. Just the way the world works.

And FFS it's called "Crooked Oaks". I mean you can't make this stuff up folks LINK

Give me a break. 99% of these guys aren't being hired because the college coach thinks they're a great coach. They're being hired to lure a recruit. Simple as that. The practice needs to be ended.

The last two that we've done this with are currently on-field coaches in the SEC, one an OC and one a RB coach. So...

Michigan thought we hired Isaiah Wilson' OC, it was a total hoax. I totally agree the practice needs to be ended.

Bryant was 100% not worth hiring his coach for.

The desperation stinks.

Felton had offers from all three finalist schools (as reported by UGA mods). It is widely believed that he will be on an-field coach within ~3 years. This is a 4-star recruit; you think they hired his coach to get him LOL?
