Nope...heard this same shite last recruiting cycle.

The problem I've started to notice, and what pisses of some LSU fans (understandably so) is that it's less about how well you do than about how well Bama does. Nothing like bringing in a monster recruiting class that you have every reason to be ecstatic about, only to watch another team surge ahead, at least on paper, by bringing in an even more monstrous recruiting class.

I choose not to be that type of fan

Bama should enjoy this run with Saban....It was a perfect storm in getting him there

I just hope Kiffin is his replacement soon

When over half of the top 10 recruiting classes are SEC teams, I'd think it would be hard to complain too much. Sure Bama's rivals may be a little pissed that Saban has consistant #1 classes - but when your own team finishes in the top 10 that's damn strong too.

It's looking to be a Freek class. Bama has already signed ten players who are ranked in the top ten in the nation at their respective position.

Won't be easy finding a guy that would want to follow Saban

And it's not like you haven't hired worse pre-Saban

I think the fear of following a legend could be overcome by looking at the roster.

When Saban retires, there won't be a more talented roster in America without a coach.

I think we lost a war about that sort of thing 150 years ago.

That has as much to do with Saban's ability to coach as it does recruiting.

If it was all about recruiting then he would have never won his first Championship at Bama.

Don't get me wrong. Recruiting is a good percentage of winning big, winning championships ... but I'm not sure recruiting "rankings," per se, are that important - not in college football.

You still have to have some bounces go your way. You still have to coach'em-up. You still have to have favorable scheduling. You'd better have some solid senior leadership. You'd better have some solid blue collar, hard work ethic, contributors.

Saban wins, IMHO, mostly because of his system. His recruiting prowess is the result of the success he has had working his system at a traditional powerhouse in Alabama. As someone posted just above this, we're witnessing a bit of a perfect storm in that regard.

The question remains, at this stage of the game especially, is this super class he seems to be assembling really that big of a deal? Saban has recruited lesser classes and done quite well. This super class might not have the chemistry. There is such as thing as too many stars, too many divas or prima donnas. There is precedent for that sort of thing, historically.

All any of this means is that there is a better chance that these 10 kids will turn into impact players. That's not to say a team that only gets 3 of the Top 100 players won't end up with 10 impact players from that class 3 years down the road, just that the team with 10 top 100 players has a better chance of that occurring.

If you underestimate recruiting, and specifically who you recruit, you don't understand college football.

Recruiting is an exact science. It's not guesswork. It's like shooting craps. The house will not win every roll but over the long run the house will always profit around 1.5% off the game.
