Big get/need for the basketball team.

The SEC now has 3 of the top 6 teams in recruiting classes
1#-UK
#5-Bama
#6-mizzou

I assume this means Jeremiah got his senior English essay turned in.

Cuonzou has been a revelation.

I'm guessing we jump to the #2 class when Jontay commits.

Good think you all had a player decide to transfer today otherwise there wouldn't have been a spot for him.

Pretty lucky I guess!

This was a discussion among the fan base last year. Myself and people more knowledgeable than me said that we shouldn't allow Coach Anderson to give away any scholarships last year. He was bringing in Division II talent and they were obviously going to have to be processed as soon as we got a new coach.

Exactly. We all knew this was coming after KA recruited a bunch of D2 athletes here. I'm surprised Geist didn't get the boot. He's absolutely terrible and won't be seeing any playing time this season.

Yes, but if you keep Geist it does a better job of balancing out the classes as he's gone after next year regardless. We'll actually have 3 seniors next year, and our APR is running at a pretty dangerous level. So we may not be able to process out any of KAs other garbage.

Yeah there would have been. Three spots plus two transfers already makes 5 spots.

Porter
Casius
Cj
Tilmon
Harris

Kemp leaving opens a spot for Jontay.

Mizzou fan here. Been lurking on this forum ever since Cuonzo was hired and Romar was fired. First time posting.

Can't believe how the cards have been dealt for MU hoops this year. I haven't been this excited for Mizzou basketball in years.

Kemp leaving was probably a formality once it was a sure thing that Tilmon was coming and Jontay was still contemplating.

As for Jontay reclassifying, I honestly feel very good either way. He comes this year, we have a chance to have one unbelievable season. In addition to being an elite player, he and MPJ playing together since childhood will be a huge bonus in helping the new team gel.

If he comes the following year, there's a slight chance (at least I hope) that MPJ decides to stick around for an extra year. I think that would be the absolute best situation for Mizzou long term. It gives us at least one top recruit for a second year in a row which could help start a trend for MU, and obviously we get to keep MPJ another year. But realizing that's probably a pipe dream (MPJ staying an extra year), I'll welcome Jontay whenever he wants to come.

BTW, I think I read that he was about 55-45 on reclassifying a while back, but now is back to 50-50. He said he isn't going to decide until after his Mokan team plays in the Nike Peach Jam tourney in mid July.

I think when it is all said and done, MPJ could be the most talented player MU has ever had. But as a (likely) multi-year player, Jontay could be the Porter that leaves the biggest legacy at MU.

Of course, I haven't seen any of the younger Porters yet. Let's hope the name Porter becomes synonymous with MU hoops for a long, long time.

Mrs. Porter is 6'4 and she averaged 40 plus points a game in her sr. year in college.

And 58.7 pts a game her senior year in HS! Crazy basketball blood in that family.

Regardless of the record, this is what the program needed as much as anything.
