I'll never understand what happened with Alabama recruiting the state of Mississippi. Up until about six years ago Alabama always got a couple of top guys in the state of Mississippi. They can't catch a cold there now.

The boosters believe in Freeze and Mullen and are more organized tham ever before. Used to, Jackson and up were typically Ole Miss/MSU battles with a few exceptions, and the South half of the state was a free for all between in state schools, LSU, Bama, and sometimes Auburn. Now both Ole Miss and State have a strong booster presence in south MS, which resulted in a really fun battle for Leo Lewis.

Let me help you out. Prior to 6 years ago you recruited against guys that couldn't recruit nor win consistently (ie. the Crooms, Nutts etc....). Then came Mullins followed closely by Freeze (AKA Fresus, Frido or Anti-Chist for you ED whackadoodles). Now it is a lot more difficult to pull good players out of the Sip. They want to stay and build the Landmass. Those that don't we say ciao and don't come crying when they get screwed like JJ. Now it isn't just impacting SEC schools. Look at Southern Miss. Their decline has corresponded likewise.

That's what's on the surface. But very good recruiters like Ed Orgeron were at Ole Miss in the last decade. Very good coaches like Jackie Sherrill were at Mississippi State in the last 15 years. The shift seems more to do with kids not wanting to leave home. Is that just better coaching or marketing?

You really could have left that out...

Reference Quicksilver's response. He got it right.

We never really got a lot out of Miss. Couple of decent guys but nothing too great.

It is the old Chicken or Egg scenario. I actually think it's a combination of both. Boosters are the big impact in Southen Sip but they don't get organized if Mullins and Freeze aren't there getting their respective programs pointed in the right direction.
And yes O was a good "paper" recruiter but in way over his head as a HC and couldn't string together any wins. Plus a good majority of his highly ranked recruits either never made it to campus or didn't last long enough to contribute.
And yes I could have left out the stab at the rabid crazy web sight but had an +18 hour day yesterday and am in a bit of a foul mood. Sorry I am not sorry!

I'd say Dwayne Rudd, Deshea Towsend, and others over the years were a little more than "nothing too great".

Look how long ago that was. OK who are the others. Terry Grant, Justin Woodall, Alonzo Lawerne, Rod Woodson...I know that there are others but nobody too special imo. The best players have usually stayed in state.

And those intervening years correspond with what? The guys you listed are Shula era signees or busts in the first two years of the Saban era. No mention of Kevin Norwood or Anthony Steen?
Alabama has never made the state of Mississipi a major priority but it has always signed a couple of guys each class. That now hasn't happened in a few years. A time when the state of Mississippi is likely doing a better job of developing its talent than ever before.

DD Bowie will be at ole miss this Friday. That willbe his second visit this week.

And your response is Kevin Norwood and Anthony Steen???? I thought we were talking about the best players in Miss coming out of high school. They both were good for us but Steen was a 3 star coming out of high school and Norwood was a four star but neither were the best in state.

Do you want to talk about productively or recruiting rankings? Because I listed two very productive guys Alabama signed from Mississippi. You listed busts that were highly ranked in their respective classes in Mississippi.

My original statement was we never really got much out of Miss. A couple of decent players but nothing great. Norwood was clutch but he wasn't a superstar player. I don't even know what the hell your argument is. The players you posted just prove what im saying.

I'm sorry you can't comprehend my statement that Alabama once routinely signed 2-3 from Mississippi. That was until 5-6 six years ago. Is that too difficult to understand?
Posted on 6/4/15 at 1:39 pm to CapstoneGrad06
You said 2 or 3 of the top guys. I cant comprehend it because it never happened. What was the time frame 6 years ago. OK it still didn't happen. I cant remember a player from Miss that I really was excited about. But yea go ahead and tell me a year Bama signed 2 or 3 top players out of Miss.
