From 18 Finalists, they search for the Final Elite 11.

quote:

QB Jacob Eason , 6-5.5, 215
Lake Stevens (Washington)
The future Bulldog threw for 2,829 yards and 32 TD's with just 3 INT's as a junior. A three-sport athlete, Eason swapped his baseball spikes for football cleats just a few days before The Opening Oakland, where he dominated the competition en route to an invite straight to the Elite 11 Finals. The Georgia commit is listed as the No. 1 Pro-Style QB and No. 3 overall prospect in the Scout 300.

quote:

QB Feleipe' Franks , 6-6, 218
Wakulla (Florida)
Franks looked to build on a standout performance as an underclassmen last spring, and did just that, taking home the first invite to the 2015 Elite 11 and The Opening Finals. The strong-armed QB has the ability to dissect you with his arm, while possessing more than enough speed to make yards with his legs. The LSU commit is listed as the No. 1 Dual Threat QB and No. 45 overall prospect in the 247 Composite.

QB Jarrett Guarantano , 6-3.5, 191
Bergen Catholic (New Jersey)
Guarantano threw for 1,030 yards and 9 TD's with another 258 yards and 4 TD's on the ground as a junior. After an exceptional performance at the event as a sophomore, Guarantano's MVP performance earned a ticket to the Elite 11 Finals at The Opening. The Tennessee commit is listed as the No. 2 Dual-Threat QB and No. 106 overall prospect in the 247 Composite.
HUDL Highlights

quote:

QB Brandon McIlwain , 6-0, 187
Council Rock North (Pennsylvania)
The Elite 11 Semifinals MVP threw for 2,018 yards and 17 TD's as a junior, with another 1,027 yards and 19 TD's on the ground. Mcilwain's excellence isn't limited to the gridiron; he's considered a top prospect on the baseball field as well. The South Carolina commit is listed as the No. 8 Dual-Threat QB and No. 259 overall prospect in the 247 Composite.
HUDL Highlights

quote:

QB Shea Patterson , 6-2, 195
Calvary Baptist (Louisiana)
Patterson jumped off a red-eye flight and went straight onto the field at the Elite 11 Semifinals. Not more than 3 hours later, he had earned his invite to the Elite 11 Finals. As a junior, Patterson threw for 2,428 yards and 38 TD's with just 3 INT's. The Ole Miss commit is listed as the No. 1 QB and No. 3 overall prospect in the Scout 300.

In today's 7v7 drills they get 2 drives starting from the 25 yd line (redzone)., McIwain was perfect, going 6-6 and 2 TD's.

One reporter wrote:

McIlwain shows really good patience, lets his routes progress, finds a delayed slant route over the middle for a touchdown. 6 for 6.

Going back to Elite 11 Semifinals, McIlwain is 13 for 13 in his 7on7 Elite 11 passes
.

nice session for him.

#Gamecocks QB commit Brandon McIlwain also connected for TD with his 1st throw of day. Perfect toss in crossing route. #Elite11

Something about Trent Dilfer and Elite in the same sentence just doesn't seem right.

I believe Eason and Patterson also had 2 drops a piece... FWIW. They can't throw and catch the ball.

You could make an argument that he wasn't the greatest, of course he wasn't. However, he had a great QB career himself. He won a Super Bowl, played in a Pro Bowl, was drafted #6 Overall, was on an NFL roster for 13 years, set an NCAA record for most consecutive passes without an INT, was an All American (AP), was All Conference at Fresno...his resume is rather impressive.

This whole thing is fun and all, but the reality show aspect is really stupid. The ranking part is basically Trent Dilfer trying to act like he goes against the grain and outsmarts everybody.

true, I don't think to post the drops though, b/c that's pretty subjective. A QB will say the WR dropped the catchable pass, and the WR will say the QB didn't throw the ball with the right touch, or it was wobbly, or it wasn't on route, etc.... A completion is a completion and an incomplete is an incomplete, it's just easier to count accurately.

Just like with the recruiting sites, there are hits and misses. This is probably the most even footing that these guys could have to stack up against each other though, since they are working with the same coaches, support players, weather, turf, timing, etc....

Sure, there are players who go to the Elite 11 and who are never heard about once they went to college, but then there are plenty of other guys like Cassel, Leinart, Anderson, Winston, Tebow, Stafford, Bridgewater, etc... that went on to have great careers.

The recruiting sites use camps and film to rate/rank players. This Elite 11 competition is rating them solely on camp performance(s). That's both good and bad. We've all seen some player's highlight reel that looks amazing and he looks like Superman, but then you find out he's playing 1A ball in NC and he's flying by the 2nd chair trumpet player in the school's band.

IMO, camps are at best a supplementary tool and at worst totally worthless. If you aren't pairing them with any film of them playing the actual sport at all, then I don't see how it isn't worthless.

It's the underwear Olympics. It's fun for the players just like flag football is fun. It's not close to a good indicator though. They are on even footing. The problem is that it's a different game.

idk why they don't report drops, but it isn't because it's subjective. No matter what the QB or WR thinks, a drop is determined by a third party who determined that the pass was clearly catchable.

While it would be nice to know how many drops caused incompletions, that is just way too much detail for a camp for rising seniors. Agree with the others, it is becoming too much of a reality show.

studentsports.com, indeed. For anyone else confused by that - Patterson is #1 QB, #3 overall. Eason is #2 QB, #11 overall.

exactly, a third person could say it was a drop by the WR, a fourth person could say it was a bad pass by the QB, a fifth person could say it was a bad pass and a sixth person could say it was a drop, it's all just really subjective.

they have stats on drops in college and NFL - just use that methodology. Not that hard. At the end of the day, who really cares anyways.

I didn't see it if it was. You can find a bunch of highlights online though, like the ones I linked in a post above from youtube.

247 Ranked the Top Performers from Tuesday's drills, the Top 3 were:

quote:

1. Shane Buechele (Texas commit)
Stats: 5 for 6, 3 TDs
Buechele earned the top spot in the Elite 11 rankings after Monday's workouts and he's got a strong chance of hanging onto that top spot after his Tuesday workout. The Texas commit connected on three deep ball touchdowns and was a split second away from connecting on a fourth.

2. Brandon McIlwain (South Carolina commit)
Stats: 6 for 6, 2 TDs
In the semifinals, McIlwain went 7 for 7 during a similar setting and he was once again perfect on Tuesday. Others look better at times when prospects are just throwing on air but when the competition heats up, McIlwain seems to rise to the challenge.

3. Brandon Peters (Michigan commit)
Stats: 6 for 6, 2 TDs
Quietly, Peters continues to be one of the most consistent performers in this Elite 11 group. There was never a doubt on any of his throws, he spun it well and put it on the money for every throw. Rarely do you see Peters throw a wobbler or skip a football.
