He put in a lot of work last year to get his weight up. Worked his tail off for an offer like this. Very proud of him.

rmnldr,

Would you mind giving a bit of a breakdown on him? You probably have as much insight on him as any of the pay sites.

Kid has talent and fits what Chavis likes at LB. Give him time and he could be a good LB in that scheme.

That said, all the TAM guys and even mods on recruiting sites have to quit pumping this kid as the prototype for the Chavis LB position. Cmon. This kid was right under Chavis' nose at LSU and never sniffed an offer. Its not as if LSU is loaded with LBs and don't need them. It shows more the lack of depth and talent at the position at TAM than the kid being some super prospect. I hope the kid develops and plays well but don't be ridiculous with the expectations. LSU has 5-6 kids on the roster built like this kid, with the same skill set and are more talented that are just players not studs. Pump the brakes

So is he or is he not the kind of LB Chavis wants?

He is trying to be diplomatic, which isn't a good idea on a message board.

He is pointing out that although the kid has talent and fits what Chavis likes in a LB, he isn't a prototype for and doesn't have the upside to demand an offer from LSU.

Is that too complicated for you, pal?

He is a smaller linebacker but doesn't have the speed like Kwon Alexander or Deion Jones has. He has some serious burst which is why they let him play at DE. HHS didn't have great talent on defense so he was one of the anchors. LSU has recruited him lightly and considers him a plan B guy. He still needs to develop physically and his technique needs work. That being said, he's a great guy overall who won't get in trouble in Aggieland. If he were to get an LSU offer he would most likely flip though.

He's nowhere near elite but has all the makings to be down the road.

quote:

Yeah his offer sheet is unimpressive, but he's from Louisiana so at the very least maybe it will pay off down the road with another recruit from his area...as long as he realizes he's not in swamp trash land and stays eligible and out of jail.

I'm actually impressed that A&M has been recruiting the river parishes as well as they have. If they can get some of the guys out of there they'll create a nice little pipeline. Across the river from Hahnville is Destrehan where Kirk Merritt plays. The big flashy stars don't come out of here but every year it's packed with talent.

ETA: I looked and A&M has also offered Rickey Preston from Hahnville.

With all due respect Chavis recruited DJ Welter, and played him 2 years too long. This is equivalent to LSU flipping a UH Cougar recruit and being excited about it. Just for a little perspective

So we shouldn't be excited for this kid? He is getting a lot of attention from bigger schools lately bc he's kind of a late bloomer. His stats are great and his film looks good to me.

He's a 3* guy for a variety of reasons but he's got talent, and after a couple years developing in the system, he should be a pretty good linebacker for us. His senior year was pretty impressive on film.... really like this pickup.

Bernardrick McKinney was a 2* athlete

Damontre Moore was a 3* DE

Tyrann Mathieu was a 3* CB

We aren't looking for Thomas to start this year or even play meaningful snaps in 2015. We're looking for him to play meaningful snaps and possibly start in 2016 and later.

LSU fans are really showing their red asses in this thread. Please pull your dresses back down. Every LSU fan trying to troll Aggie fans these days need to step away from the computer. Y'all come off as scared, Internet pussies. Maybe that's what you are.

Trying to troll aTm because they got a 3* guy from Louisiana, good grief.

Aggies, I hope Chief and co. turns this kid into a superstar, and he has a great future!
