Would you Rather Win the Sugar Bowl or Lose the First Round of the CFP?

Someone asked me this earlier in the season. Curious what other people think.
Basically, does a Sugar Bowl win or a playoff appearance (followed by a loss) help your program more?
What if the Playoff loss was a bad loss? Let's say 42-21. Would that change your answer?

I would rather make the CFP and let the chips fall where they may. At the end of the day you are either good enough or you are not.

The playoff usually includes the SEC title.

Playoff
You want to go to the dance even if you come home empty handed

Playoff. If this system sticks around for a while, who wants over be known as a program that has never made the playoffs?

When given the choice of winning or losing, I generally pick winning.
It just feels better.

Win the Sugar Bowl.
Winning a major bowl can give your program plenty of momentum heading into signing day.

Sugar for me. Mizzou already lost some "playoff games" in 2007 and 2013.
Being one win away from the NCG and losing hurts.
Life is all about variety, is it not?

It's nothing like that. 64/347 vs 4/128. Not even close.
And winning the NIT is still winning a tournament, which is much more difficult than winning one game.

Don't make the playoff and you don't even get that. You just get a bowl trophy that no one besides perennial also-rans could possibly give a shite about.

Lot of us OU fans are discussing this. If by some far out chance others lose and OU is in the hunt, lot of us would easily take a CFP semifinal loss over a NY6 non-CFP bowl win.
Yes, our defense is horrid, but if OU was to play, say Alabama? Yeah, it would be ugly. But it's a game with championship aspirations. I'd take a 10-3 CFP bowl loss over an 11-2 NY6 bowl win any day.

That's pretty bad but still a playoff spot would be better. Now if it was something like the Michigan State playoff run? The Sugar Bowl is actually a very prestigious opportunity and any establishment should be proud to win that.

OU will not win the Sugar Bowl unless they play Aggy.

Big picture, I think winning the Sugar Bowl is better for a program than losing in the first round of the CFP.

Playoffs hands down. But don't worry Aggie fan this is a choice y'all won't ever have to worry about on both fronts. Sorry, I had to take that shot

Depends on the circumstances of why you're not in the playoffs. There's a big difference between 2014 TCU and 2015 Ole Miss.
