HogFan can not admit the massiveness of this failure because in 3 or 4 years Bart B will have his players in place.

Uh, this year, he makes 5.2. Putting that aside though, 3.2 is still drastically overpaid for him.

He will be at Auburn for a long time. Why go to Texas when you have rebuilt Auburn in a season?

Wait, are you serious with this?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say, because one is Texas and one is Auburn. That is akin to saying, "Why go to USC why you just rebuilt Caltech in a season?"

He went into a situation where he already had his players recruited for his style. He would've done just as shitty as Arkansas as Bert did his first year

No... Gus would not have gone 0-8 while constantly bitching about everything possible... Gus would've gone 2-6 and wouldnt have really bitched at all.

That's why I don't like his system. To me it doesn't scream sustainability. I like teams that can sustain success without that dynamic one guy.

Meh. I think y'all make too big of a deal out of this. Bielema's system, unless he recruits better than LSU or Alabama, will never beat those teams. Gus's system allows a few key guys superior talent to shine, instead of relying on the whole team to be superior in talent. I think each system is equally sustainable.

Remind me, what's Sumlin's record against those teams with his crazy offense? 1-3? Not impressed.

Great analogy. It is more like saying "Why go to Texas when you can coach at UGA."

Auburn and UGA are at the same level. Which is absurd, considering you have a state to yourself, twice as many kids and more money, but it is what it is. So sure, Texas is an upgrade from Auburn, but coaches don't leave top tier jobs for other top tier jobs all that often barring special circumstances (prior connections, crazy money, bad blood).

Sumlin's offense is not like Malzahn's offense.

Wow, so that quote is almost 8 years old. Pretty sure Gustav was still coaching at Springdale back then.

Oh wait, just read the article - you mean he was actually hired to coach at Arky when he said that? Damn, never knew that. Guess he got to live out his lifelong dream coaching at hjs favorite school.

How'd it work out foe him? Why did he leave if it was a lifelong dream? I suppose he would go back in a heartbeat, since I assume he had a positive experience with your admins and fanbase while he was there.

Oh well, at least we'll always have 2013 to remember him by, when he takes over for Bart in a couple of years.

I believe his coaching staff is a hand picked staff tailored for Arkansas. Remember that Bielema was headed to Tennessee (who dodged the bullet) before Arkansas came calling. With that said I also believe it would be hard if not impossible to have hired him from state to Arkansas.

As I said before, guy is crazy.

There's a reason everyone on the Arkansas board wasn't screaming to get Gus back here.

He was 1:30 away from being LSU in his first season just a few days ago. His "system" put 27 on them...not his fault our secondary has no talent

I'm not real high on Bert right now (for some reason, setting losing streak record doesn't sit well with me) but he was left a shyt sandwich of a roster which was on par with or worse than the one Petrino inherited in 2008.

Bielema wasn't exactly the second coming of Bill Belichick this year, but he was playing wheelchair basketball against NBA all stars.

I wouldn't mind being wrong about this but I have a feeling you all will end up liking Bert & feel like the hogs are going to be a problem for the rest of the SEC (if he doesn't keel over & die suddenly from too much sausage & catfish).

you don't have to be insecure about what gus said. whatever you do won't make it go away.

just accept him for who he is.
