AJMc

-3 National title rings
-2 SECCGs
-Broke Peyton's TD ratio record (correct me if I'm wrong on this one)
-Goes 14-0 this year and he's Bama's all-time leader in passing yards, wins, TDs, and passing efficiency assuming that he keeps up his current pace.
-his girlfriend is freaking fine

Probably because he won the first two Super Bowls.

Yep. He was a HOF QB in the NFL.

But not even mediocre at bama, so does not exactly belong on any all time great list for bama qbs.

Okay, since we are being technical - the question is about McCarron and Namath.

My bad. In the future, I'll run any claims past the auburn fanbase first. Nobody knows Bama like auburn fans.

Starr was benched his senior year, didn't play his junior year, and only played sparingly his freshman year. The only year he actually started, he threw for about 800 something yards and 8 total tds all year. Also, I think the only year he was a starting qb, bama won 6 games. Starr did pretty much nothing while he was at alabama. Not sure why bama fans list him as an all-time great bama qb.

This. It's easy to mythicize those big names many years after the fact.

Saban & Bear are waaay too different in that the eras are too different to compare. Both are very similar in many ways. It is all about recruiting and adjusting to the game. So, no, I would not take Saban just yet - they are pretty much equal to me.

Now, I would take Namath every day of the week. In his prime, with healthy legs, he was the ultimate dual threat. He was JFF with a better arm - truly a phenomenal athlete.

Dude, Namath got more fine piece of arse that you, me, AJ, and the entire current roster will ever get. He was that much of a stud.

Regardless AJ blows Namath out of the water. Stronger arm, presence, leadership, and accuracy is crazy good. Easily the best DROP BACK EXCLUSIVE QB these last few years. Notice DROP BACK EXCLUSIVE. A&M, Auburn, and Florida fans.

Namath had charisma and was a national icon.

McCarron has an ugly chest tat and has yet to throw a pass in the NFL.

Namath was a great college player AND a top flight pro, and might have been the GOAT had he not injured his knees so badly he could hardly walk.

McCarron is a very, very good collegiate passer, but I don't think his national championship wins make him a better player than Broadway Joe.

Bear vs. Saban? Bryant's career value is better, Saban's peak value is better, at present. Time will tell.

I see the edit. . .I sill have another SEC QB listed

And I even forgot Murray, who is easily better than McCarron.

Tyler Wilson....debatable. I think he was a great QB for being on a team where talent usually comes only once every blue moon. So I'll give you the nod on that one

This is what I don't quite understand, from UA fans. I get the chest thumping trolling that goes on but if this is a discussion among the faithful this makes no sense. The equipment manager has 3 NC's and 2 CC's...is he the best ever equipment manager (or waterboy or jock folder, etc...). Did AJ even hold the clipboard in 09? In 2011, for most of the season, he basically handed off to TR. He had a very good bowl game though. Now in 2012 he finished the highest rated passer in the country (175 I think). It was a great year no doubt. Does this make him better than Namath? Maybe it does, I don't know. But this 3 NC/2CC stuff...takes away from the discussion, not adds.

Broadway was nailing NYC top models for years...AJ has a loooooong way to go on this.

To be honest, that girlfriend thing was more of an icing on the cake joke

But anyone who says that Namath is better than mccarron to me, is either looking at his whole career as a baller, or is just biased. AJ McCarron has played on some AMAZING teams, but Broadway's were about 80% as good in his day.

I don't know. Just my 2 cents.
