Very off-season thread. Worst traffic in the SEC footprint by metro (750,000 residents and up) according to the TomTom traffic index (average excess minutes spent for a 10 km trip)

1. McAllen, TX (12:40)
2. Miami, FL (11:50)
3. New Orleans, LA (11:30)
4. Ft Myers, FL (11:30)
5. Charleston, SC (10:50)
6. Tampa, FL (10:40)
7. Atlanta, GA (10:40)
8. Baton Rouge, LA (10:20)
9. Orlando, FL (10:20)
10. El Paso, TX (10:10)
11. Greenville, SC (10:00)
12. Austin, TX (10:00)
13. Houston, TX (9:50)
14. Memphis, TN (9:40)
15. Nashville, TN (9:40)
16. San Antonio, TX (9:20)
17. Dallas, TX (9:20)
18. Louisville, KY 9:20)
19. Tulsa, OK (9:10)
20. St Louis, MO (9:00)
21. Jacksonville, FL (9:00)
22. Oklahoma City, OK (9:00)
23. Knoxville, TN (8:50)
24. Kansas City, MO (8:40)
25. Columbia, SC (8:40)
26. Little Rock, AR (8:30)
27. Birmingham, AL (8:30)

Birmingham used to rank near the worst about 10 years ago, but since they widened I-65 and took out traffic lights down 280, we’re now the best.

Surprised Nashville is so low. Austin too.

So ATL has some of the worst traffic in all of america right up there with LA, DC, etc..yet it's apparently better than mcallen and charleston. Ok.

I haven't been to McAllen, Texas before but Atlanta is by far the worst to me.

Atlanta is no DC but it has the worst designed road system in the SEC footprint.

I travel a good bit and McAllen traffic is nothing.

Atlanta is bad but to be expected. Drivers are not aggressive.
Houston is bad but to be expected. My hometown so I don't think drivers are aggressive but everyone else seems to.

Austin. Austin traffic SHOULDN'T be that bad but that town is gridlock. Wish they'd build more highways but it's not happening. Austin traffic gets my mention of the worst because it should be better.

San Antonio is galling because so many people drive the speed limit there.

Out of the top 5 the only one I haven't driven is Ft. Meyers but I can imagine a strip parallel to the beach with a ton of lights slowing everything down.

I live in Charleston. 34 years now. It’s awful. Our population has exploded but the infrastructure hasn’t kept pace.

From my experience in Florida, the lack of overpasses = a shite ton of traffic lights and terrible traffic. It takes about an hour to drive 20 miles to Clearwater from Tarpon Springs.

New Orleans is only top 3 because of all the Metry mawmaw's driving 10 under.

ATL and HTX should be 1 and 2.

I don't know how they measure it, but McAllen being up there tells me that this list is pretty screwed up. They have a couple of international bridges there and must be factoring in the wait to cross. They do have Austin ahead of Houston and DFW, but the difference should be a whole lot greater than this indicates (for years, the hippies in Austin operated under the assumption, if we don't build infrastructure, people won't come -- didn't quite work out like they intended).

Who TF uses Kilometers for USA traffic measurement? Can’t trust this report due to that oversight.

Can't really go by that for measuring traffic delays. More cars doesn't necessarily mean worse traffic if the infrastructure is there to support it.

Chattanooga's traffic is awful but I'd rather drive in Chatt than in Memphis. Memphis drivers are the absolute worst drivers I have encountered in my travels.
