Yeah but I thought they played well enough against us to be considered a decent team.

'98 State

8-3 (6-2) with a 41-6 loss to a 3-win LSU team, a 38-35 loss to a good Kentucky team on the road (Tim Couch) and a bad Oklahoma State team. Ended up 8-5 after loss to Tennessee and Ricky Williams raped us personally in the Cotton Bowl.

Its between us in '98 and Arkansas in '02.

Arkansas in 2002 was 9-3 (5-3) - lost 30-12 to Alabama (probation, actually won West), 41-38 to a good Tennessee team and 28-10 to an average Kentucky team. Almost let an 0-8 MSU team beat them. Lost to Minnesota in the Music City Bowl and invented the "SEC Championship Loser can't drop below Cotton Bowl" rule.

1995 Arkansas beat Alabama at Bama and finished 6-2 in league play. Lost to a bad LSU team to close out season
.

Overall record of 8-5 though with a non-con loss to SMU (???) and a bowl loss to North Carolina...smoked in the title game by Florida 34 to 3...the Bama road win was nice but Bama was 8-3 that year so good team but not great....overall I think to be realistic you have to at least include that Arky team in the discussion of weaker championship game participants. Probably not the worst ever so I'll back off that part, but its down there toward the bottom I would think.

2002 Arkansas also beat an 11-1 Boise State team OOC, hammered a 9 win AU team by 21 at Auburn, beat a 9-2 South Florida team OOC, lost in 3 OTs at Tennessee

This might actually be the one. The East was maybe the weakest any division has ever been in the SEC.

I think State in '98. They weren't a bad team by any means, but they were the worst to ever play in the SEC Championship Game - and they held a fourth quarter lead.

South Carolina lost to SEC West #2 Arkansas 41-20 at home, then followed that up by losing to SEC West champ Auburn 56-17.

That team also lost to Kentucky.

So? The question wasn't worse SECC Game, or biggest mismatch, it's worse team. That 2010 team had Lattimore, solid QB play, and beat the #1 team in the country. They absolutely weren't the worst team to make the game. It's gotta be one of the arkansas teams or MSU.

They got smashed in Atlanta and were only there because the best team in the West was on a postseason ban.

The SEC teams they beat that year went 15-33. They beat 0-8 USC and 1-7 Vandy from the East and lost to 4-4 Kentucky. Completely missed 8-0 UT, 7-1 UF and 6-2 UGA.

They played inspired in the SECCG, but that wasn't a strong team.
