2012 for state. 7-0 start. Finished 8-5 and got absolutely blown out in those losses, weren’t even competitive

The first half of State’s schedule in 2012 was comically weak, even for their standards.

Jackson State
Auburn (3-9)
Troy (5-7)
South Alabama (2-11)
Kentucky (2-10)
Tennessee (5-7)
Middle Tennessee State (8-4)

That 2012 State team was strange 7-0 start but never really looked the part. Got up to No. 13 and lost to Bama, Aggy and LSU all in blowout fashion.

Not strange at all.

You played absolutely no one on your way to 7-0.

It certainly was. I went to the game in Tuscaloosa when we were still undefeated and knew we were going to lose. I think the first drive we went down and scored and proceeded to get blown out 31-7. A nice bama fan shared alot of his whiskey with my roommate and I. We were 19 y/o had to drag him out of the stadium

We await Aggy in this thread.

They are currently still working the calculus.

Feel like we like to collapse early in the season these days

But I guess it’d have to be I think 2016. We beat top 10 Tennessee on game day no less. Barely lose at Alabama and still are ranked top 4 in playoff rankings annnnd promptly lose next 3 sec games along with a bowl game loss

Eta I say barely but after seeing the final I think was a close game in the 3rd. So I guess the collapse started 4th quarter of that game and kept on trucking

The “we believe” season…obviously started by fans not well accustomed to MSU athletics

Ah yes, Mullen's waffling years of 2011 and 2012. I remember him completely disregarding the recruiting of various positions and training for the Boston Marathon.

It’s not that bad. The wins were vacated, not forfeited.

Your official record is 0-3.

2006 wasn’t a straight collapse. But losing to uga as bad as we did ranked top 5 was brutal. Beat Alabama later in the year but that was a typical Tubs game/season. Both losses at home to teams we should have beaten easily. Then beat teams the eventual national champ in their only loss

Eta: think that was Gus’ first year in CFB who torched us on the ground.

For A&M, it's easily 1975. Undefeated and ranked #2 going into final game of year at Arkansas. Beat a top 5 Texas the week before. Starting QB was injured and I believe we fumbled something like 6 times en route to a 31-6 loss. Then went and lost a meaningless bowl game to finish 10-2.

That team had an absolutely nasty defense, maybe the best in school history.

Are you thinking of the 2012 game? SC won 35-7.

In 2007 it was a slugfest that SC won 16-12 over #11 UGA in Athens. Our defense that night somehow held Matt Stafford and the UGA offense to 4 field goals.

Our front half was weak, for sure, but nothing like State’s in 2012. Troy finished ranked and Kentucky made a bowl. State can’t say the same about any of their opponents.

I don’t know if the 2022 Rebs’ collapse was that epic. We were never the #7 team at any time that season and the ranking felt like fool’s gold. We played a good game with a tough Kentucky team. Otherwise, we looked pedestrian at best at times and sloppy and uninterested at worse.

You got me there, I've seen some collapses in my time (paging Houston Nutt, Houston Nutt to the courtesy phone) but yeah... that one takes the cake.

I've watched a lot of Georgia games in my life. Very few have surprised me as much as that one did. That performance came out of nowhere.
