Yeah, that's complete bullshite. No fans wanted him as a coach. Most wanted Tuberville. The rest were split among Neuheisel and some other trendy names at the time. Dubose wasn't on any fan wish list.

Dubose being an absolute disaster actually turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise.
It completely cured the moronic segment of the fanbase that Alabama's coach had to be a "Bama man" with a tie to Bryant.
These people were always an idiotic minority, however they happened to include people in positions of power. That's why Dubose got the job when nobody on the planet thought he'd be a good coach.
No "Bama man" has been the #1 target candidate since. Fran, Price, Saban, etc.
(Shula was an emergency 'oh crap' hire)

I'll go with Dubose as well. A grinder saying Les, a HC they have not beaten ever.

Yep. This was the hire that finally made those few see the light.

Yup.
I, for one, am sad y'all finally wised up.
LSU is on our 3rd Yankee coach in a row.

Dubose. Chizik was rockin that dentist smock so he gets a pass.

Dubose and it isn't close. CGC won a BCS and the next year after he left another coach won the SEC with his players. CGC likely lived off Gus as a coach and it showed last year, but in the end it was his team and his players. Alabama didn't win the west again for 8 years after Dubose.
On another note it is impressive to think both Alabama and Auburn can win titles with less than stellar coaches.

Congratulations.
You found the one topic in the world where all Alabama and auburn fans can agree.
Mike Dubose makes Chizik look like Vince Lombardi. Just saying his name gives me shivers, like someone who went through a traumatic experience as a kid.
I think God looked at the Alabama program after Coach Bryant and decided to even things out a bit. After Dubose was finished, God realized He had made His first mistake in the history of time and had overdone it, so he sent Saban to even things out again.

Dubose but he does have the distinction of beating a Spurrier lead Florida twice in the same season.

There was a huge outcry when Bama AD Bob Bockrath publicly announced he wanted a nationwide search. DuBose was the overwhelming choice of the alumni, boosters and fans, mainly because of his "championship bloodline". It may not have been 95% of the fans, as Rodney Orr of TiderInsider claimed on ESPN Radio the morning after the '96 Iron Bowl, but it was a significant majority. If you were really a Bama fan back then you'd know this, whether you'd be willing to admit it or not.
