I go by the "speech" test. If one truly wants to gauge the intelligence of a particular person or in this a case football player, one only needs to listen to the way the person expresses themselves verbally. Do they use proper grammar, sentence structure, etc? If it sounds below what an average literate 5th grader sounds like you know what you are dealing with. Otherwise who cares.

ETA: God, you guys missed the point of my OP. All you need to do with any of these players is interview them and listen to how they speak.

Fournette sounds like a borderline illiterate. I didn't need a formal test to verify that fact.

Fournette scores an 11 on the wonderlic.

LSU poster starts a topic saying the wonderlic is a waste of resources to gauge intelligence.

Checks out.

Well then tell us what would be a good "guage" of intelligence?

I suddenly want some guacamole.

gauge

Ok, so you did spell it right in the actual comment but I disagree with you, I think listening to a few sentences verbally is a poor way of judging someone's intelligence. Even super intelligent folks can get nervous and speak stupidly at times or even often, others have the gift of gab even if they're dumb as a rock.

I'm not sure what LF would do if you weren't here white knighting for his intelligence on a shite talking message board.

Standardized tests don't mean anything. I mean all of them, ACT, SAT, etc. I know people who made perfect scores on the ACT (36) who are engineers, I know people who made a 32 and work at books-a-million.

If anything, it gives the person or entity a ballpark of where a person is intellectually, not a sure fire "genius" or "idiot"

Ryan Fitzpatrick made a perfect score on the wonderlic and sucks overall in the NFL. Mo Claiborne made a 4 and is an average player.

Score isn't the end-all-be-all.

I'm sure this has been brought up every year prior when someone from another team scores poorly on the wonderlic

This is far from the truth. I know plenty of people that sound like Joe Dirt that are very intelligent. Where you grew up will do that. On the same hand, I know plenty of people that sound smart enough talking to them in regular conversation, but, in reality, they are dumber than a sack of rocks. And using correct grammar does not equate to intelligence either. Having knowledge and intelligence are not the same thing. I agree the test is a pretty poor way to judge someone's intelligence, but most people are "intelligent" enough to know that as well. I honestly have never seen a team come out and say they didn't draft a player because he bombed the wonderlic, especially at a position like RB.

i'm not a fan of it... but if you score below 15 then you are probably a little slow. it is a speed test so it isn't accurate in some ways to test true intelligence for example it took Einstein 30 years to figure out that E=Mc^2... that shite took me 30 minutes.
